another case of some people just not understanding

Just received the following email:

To: dr@cdn-money.com From: some schmuck Subject: crossed off your game I stopped one of your bills. What you are doing is silly and disrespectful. Crossed off your website on bill.

So, without thinking or caring, I replied with the following:

To: some schmuck From: dr@cdn-money.com Subject: re: crossed off your game Well done; you're quite a hero. I trust it made you feel better. Now there's only 163,937 bills to go.

…just in case anyone cares what sort of emails I put up with. And no that's not his name or email; I changed it to protect him from abusive replies from you guys (I think mine was probably bad enough)

On a related note, a guy at the Edmonton Journal emailed me a couple of days ago. Said there might be a story on the site in the future. He was hoping that it was Edmonton based. However, I'm sure that they would be interested if you northerners organized a get together. Anyway, doesn't really matter as we aren't really interested in press.

Nice Reply, I like to see thoes kind of things. A hate mail scetion would be cool. The press thing would also be great. Did he say how he found the site?

Idjit

Most of the opposition I get is from the banks. Now I just offer to put on a seminar for them to explain the law- stops 'em dead in their tracks.

Pooga

You should post his subsequent reply, and your reply to his reply.

I guess some people just don't have any imagination, or respect for other people's work.

BDKINGSTON

I can't Believe that someone who feels writing on or stamping a bill is disrespectfull would then damage the bill by crossing off the website. Hope he/she has fun finding and crossing out the website on all the other bills we have marked and thereby reducing the life of the bills and attempting to spoil what we have here. Maybe this person should boycott the use of bills by not carrying cash and paying for everything with plastic….

crazz

It doesn't seem to matter, there is always someone who has to try and wreck someones fun. This person obviously has a bitter view of life in general, and doesn't like the fact that we enjoy what we are doing! All we can do is feel sorry for them and go on. These people need to be hit by lightning to learn to stop and enjoy everything they can. There is nothing we can do to help them, so lets all mark off one bill and continue to enjoy this site!!!

dr

As per Pooga's request, this his reply, my reply and his final reply. I will not be replying to him any further as this is clearly like arguing religion. Plus, he spent a total of 2 minutes, 7 seconds on the website before he came to that conclusion. Nice work judging a book by it's cover, schmuck.

And while his final comments about complaining to the Bank of Canada will have much effect, you may want to consider writing to the Bank in support of our site. In viewing some of the users, there seems to be many uses for the site (a university student did a research paper on money movement and a TV produced did some research for a potential show, just to name two examples) in addition to our "fun" use.

To: dr@cdn-money.com From: some schmuck Date: Feb 7, 2003 5:33PM Subject: re: crossed off your game Actually, we were just talking about your silly interest, and someone said they just did the same thing, so thats 2 now Douglas. Obviously too much time on your hands, so you and your aliases become disrespectful. To: some schmuck From: dr@cdn-money.com Date: Feb 7, 2003 6:00PM Subject: re: crossed off your game Okay, 2 bills will no longer be able to be tracked. Anyway, I don't send you unrequested emails calling your hobbies or interests silly or making comments about your spare time, so why is it that you felt the need to do it to me? Would you do the same thing to my face? I think not. And by crossing off the website, all you've done is reduced the life of that bill, costing money. Did you read anything on the site at all? This site is for fun, not for profit. It costs me money to run the And finally, since marking the bills isn't illegal, I'm not being disrespectful or doing anything wrong. And while I'm on the subject of respect, just who or whom do you feel am I being disrespectful to? The Queen? The GG? The PM? The country? As if, I've been a soldier for ten years... disrespect is not marking bills. Disrespect is burning the flag, protesting violently, ignoring Remembrance Day, making foul comment or rude gestures at soliders or other such acts that I've seen. To: dr@cdn-money.com From: some schmuck Date: Feb 8, 2003 6:04PM Subject: re: crossed off your game Your hobbies and interests are not to be an intrusion into my life. Your silly game is put on bank of canada notes that we as consumers and merchants have to look at. I WOULD do it to your face, right in a public store where your silly name is displayed on a dollar bill. If everyone decided to write and draw on dollar bills for their personal playground, then it would make those bills looks very dirty. You are the one who is making these dollar bills unfit for the exchange of goods and services. It is your fault for making a website and has to deal with the financial burden of it. This money is not owned by you. It may not be illegal as yet, however just because something is legal, does that make it right. Abortion and pornography is legal, do you think it is ok, I don't think it is right, it is disgusting. So do many many others. My brother was a soldier for many years, and he knows that this is greatly silly and disrespectful for what you do. I'm sure you can find the time to do something much more productive and entertaining without the showing of disrespect. You are showing disrespect to something that is not yours, and something that is used by Canadians for their buying and selling. It also represents our country to others, for what we use as a currency. You are also displaying a digitized copy of a 5 dollar bill on your website, this is borderline legality also. I will be writing to the bank of canada to complain of these abuses that you and your aliases are doing. A local bank manager has also taken note your actions. The buck stops here.

Pooga

I think you should make Hank and the WW people aware of it as well. The more people who support these websites, the more influence we have with the BoC.

And like you say, useless to argue with the person. Just to tick him off, I probably would have replied saying that anyone who opposes abortion and pornography is a Neadertal and living in a dream world. They are legal because there is nothing wrong with them (even though I don't really believe it myself… just to throw back at them!)

T-rev

Simply put- jeez, it is just money, a piece of paper. Blyme. Maybe it is just me but I think the country and the world has much bigger problems. Genocide, poverty, etc. It's like a resident of London during WWII being angry because there is a pothole on his street.

I don't know where this guy is from but if I were you dr I would recomend a therapist for him! He has some very deep issues he needs to deal with!!

dr

I would recomend a therapist for him

I dunno; that's really more Seretonin's department than mine…

BTW, nice one Trev… made me totally laugh. Too funny.

antics

I think someone starched that guys boxers just a tad too much!! I feel the bills are looked after a bit better if one wants them to travel far. I have even gone so far as to iron some really wrinkled ones. (they wont work on my printer if I dont) I no longer crumple money and shove it in my pocket. I try to keep it looking as new and crisp as possible so I can get more "hits" on it!

Suzuki

"You are the one who is making these dollar bills unfit for the exchange of goods and services."

As far as making the bills unfit I agree with what antics said: "I feel the bills are looked after a bit better if one wants them to travel far. I no longer crumple money and shove it in my pocket. I try to keep it looking as new and crisp as possible so I can get more "hits" on it!"

So does that mean we are shortening the life of the bills, I don't think so, I look forward to checking and straightening those old wrinkled bills every day
Way to go antics! Keep it up everybody!

I would like to find out what business this 'gentleman' is associated with and frequent that establishment with say a thousand dollars cash (marked of course) and see if that business would refuse to take my money. There will always be people like this and eventually they 'will' take our money too.
I wonder if he complains to the bank about the tellers writing on bills also?

magpie

"Your hobbies and interests are not to be an intrusion into my life."
What's up with that, They must be if he is taking the time to complain. This guy has real "ISSUES" and way more time on his hands then most of us.
Nice reply dr

Idjit

Tell him to check out Where's George- with 1.3 million users, he's fighting a losing battle…he'll probably try to call the President….

kaiser

The guys got problems. We here are proving all those freaks who say a five lives for a year that they live longer. How else do you explain the 650+ day hits?

I also take care of my bills. Even try to get my brother to be nice to his.

crazz

I agree with all of you, except the nut case!! He's probably the same guy who eats all but one last bite and refuses to pay because it wasn't cooked right etc, etc. Never happy unless he can complain. Actually, someone will probably look really hard at the scribbled out web site and one of us will get a hit on it!!

MmmBeer

Aren't the bills' our property once in our posetion? We can do pretty much whatever we like with them because they are ours. People may not accept them if we ruin them alot, but thats whatever they choose. But they have to accept something fit for circulation. Bla Bla bla bla

pappahunt

Yes they are our property because we as tax payers own a share in every thing the government has!!! I have noticed a couple of times at the store that I get the urge to grab the bills out of someones hand and straighten them out! This guy did it at KFC last night. Took the change from his meal, crumpled the bills and shoved them in his pocket! DISGUSTING!!!!!

crazz

Yeah, some of the bills I get at work have all kinds of writing on them, from just numbers, to names, addresses, phone numbers, and mustaches. We at least tape up the ripped bills and stamp or write neatly.
