anyone ever heard about a 5$ coin???

Yes, there are $5.00 coins. There is a set from The 1976 Montreal Olympics that were produced from 1974 to 1976. They have also made $5.00 coins in 1998, 1999, 2001 & 2004 - 2006.

The RCM recently threw out plans to introduce a circulating $5 coin after a barrage of complaints and bad responses to this proposal. No there is no circulating $5 coin planned for at least 4 years (when the new bill series is released).

The coins that were mentioned are all non-circulating and made of silver, often priced at 3x their face value. The latter are $5 Silver Maple Leafs which have been produced since 1988 in various forms/designs.
