For those of you that are interested, the site reached $7,000,000 on Feb 17/04, so it took 3 months and 1 day to reach the next million milestone…..

Where are we going? HIGHER.

Stole that one from Telemiracle. Sorry about that.

Here's an intersting thought. What percentage of paper money that is in circulation do we have entered in this site? And if that figure could easily be figured out might be an interesting thing to put on the main page beside the total entered.

Sarge

What percentage of paper money?

Between us and the other two sites, it will be very low, less than 1%. Consider CMT has about 480,000 bills entered, and a single ATM holds about 8,000 bills, we can fill about 60 machines with marked bills. Then consider the number of machines across the country (does anyone know how many there are? I think there are about 90 in Saskatoon alone belonging just to the banks. Then there are also private machines). The banks hold large cash reserves as well. Also consider the number of bills that have been taken out of circulation since we started. Maybe the Bank of Canada site says how many bills are in circulation.

Wow…so much to consider…sounds like a FERMI problem!

According to a little searching I did there are approx 1.4 billion bank notes in circulation. I got that statistic from this site and this one has closer to a real number but the stats are from 2001. So we have about 0.0343 % entered. But yeah…even if DR went with 1.4 billion in circulation and had the % at the bottom it would still be interesting.

46 $25 bills and 23 $500 bills??? Not to mention all the ones and twos still out in circulation!

Now that IS interesting!

I wonder how long some of those 'defunct' bills have been carried on the books?!?
