Chinese Babel?

Interesting articles Pooga. I am not familiar with the situation in India, but I do have some knowledge of China. Keeping a country as large and diverse as China united is a major undertaking. Ideologies such as Confusianism and Communism (when it was taken seriously)were fairly successful in uniting the country. Today it is far more problematic. There really is no common ideology today in China. Mandarin is a weak cement but the ruling elite cannot afford to allow any more divisions, hence the uproar over use of dialects in the media. Interesting country.

Thanks for the posting.

My hubby is leaving on Sunday for Krygyzstan (right beside China and Russia) He hasn't been there for 7yrs and is a bit nervous. (He's travelling alone this time)and has to stop in Bishkek for a visa, everyone there talks Russian and/or mongolian(?)He's worried he won't know where to go!! Last time he talked about the T.V. and it was mostly Chinese and Hindu. Maybe he'll come home using this Chinese Babel!! The big hit show was Gilligan's Island!!(The old show!)
