Hey all! I hope everyone had a good christmas!! A bit of a disaster on Christmas Eve for me tho…It seems that a power surge (despite the fact that i have a surge protector) fried the motherboard in my computer. So i am reduced to doing one bill once in a while…just to keep my score up until i get my comp back. On top of that its apparently gonna have a hefty price tag. Chritmas Bah HUMBUG!! :(

sorry to hear that IM…
on the bar ( on the box ) does it not have some type of warranty when it malfunctions?

I'm not sure what kind of computer you had but the Crown corporations sell their old computers. Right now "Computers for schools" on the East side of the building of SaskTel - 2133 1st Avenue have Pentium 2's for under $300.00. 17" monitor for $50.00. They are always upgrading. You will have to load your own programs. (Also includes keyboard and mouse)

Give Me Money

I know where your coming from, i had the same happen to me but then i find out that the fan and this and that is toast so instead of fixing the prob. it was cheaper to buy a new tower, but if its only a momma board then you get off lucky with only 2-3hundred or less depending what your req. are

Sorry to hear of the bad news

I cooked my video card- computer is acting all funny now. I might have to scrap the whole piece of junk.
I was shopping around on boxing day, but I couldn't find out what all the excitement was about- nobody had any great sales on. Hope you get a good deal on your repair.

I replace my surge protector as soon as the warranty expires. Mine is for lightning also. I think this one is 5 years. costs more but well worth it.

Idjit

I wouldn't trust anything to protect against lightning strikes. The electromagnetic surge from a close lightning strike can cremate computers that aren't even plugged in. Minor surges from house current, maybe…

ah but if it does happen, I get some money for my computer. most likely pro rated but………better than a swift kick

Sorry about your bad fortune at Christmas time insane_monkey. Hope that you get your computer fixed soon, so you can enter all your bills at once again. Keep still believing in Christmas though :)

After reading all this about the Christmas Disaster I though someone might have said something about the sad happenings in sri lanka & area..
The huge Tsunami

God luck with the computer!!

Well im back…my comp is all fixed up and running better than it ever has. Unfortunately…we lost everything on our hard drive as a result of the surge. We got a really good deal on the repairs tho…so thats an upside. But anyways…i'm back up and running so hopefully my score will be up within a week.
