I am trying desperately to have some fun by using this site – I love it. I am a geographer and the diffusion of bills across the landscape is fascinating. I am, however, frustrated in my attempts at getting some hits of my own! (impatience is part of this :) ). My latest complaint is with the banks here in Regina. I went to the main branch of the RBFG today with the hopes of getting a whole mess of fives that were in fairly nice shape (uncirculated would, i realize, be far too much to hope for). Instead, I got 40 1986 vintage 5s that will likely go from my pocket to the shredder/incinerator at the bank of Canada. What gives?! who do you have to be and/or know to get money that is in decent shape?! This is the second time I've gone to the bank in search of fives and been given crap-for-bills. I would desperately like to see the bills that I enter and stamp stay in circulation a bit longer! Any advice?
I have been able to get uncirculated bills quite often. Now remember that this is the Royal Bank.

The main branch is a city is a good bet as a greater number of bills flow through it. I get lucky one in a while, especially on a Friday afternoon, and get UNC bills from a teller.

The commercial cages are good for UNC bills. I have found that the small branch near me is quite happy to give me UNC as most businesses do not like them. Too hard to handle. But this is only if they are not busy, as they have to shut down their dispenser to pull the bills off the bottom of the stack. BTW, this is also the branch that is saving 50 cent pieces for me.
(Love geography. Maybe you know my neighbour, Alex Aitken, U of S geographer. Check out my profile for my bill dispersal!)
thanks for the great tips… i'll give those a shot!
as for geography, i do know the NAME alec aitken but i haven't ever really talked to him. and i agree that i find the distribution of your hits as shown in your profile fascinating (and i HAD looked at that before your prompting). i do, however, have to give the award to most geographical profile that i've seen (so far) to kayfbee. like most geographers, i'm a sucker for maps!
My best bet for getting bundles of UNC $5 is the business Tellers at the royal bank, again on friday afternoons… Most of the businesses have been in getting change for the weekend, so I find that when I go in around 3:00 I can get UNC without much of a hassle.

Alex Aitken, eh?
It happens that theres a school around here named after an Alex Aitken. Although I dought that its your neighbour.
