I don't want to move my dauther's furniture to her new place so I though I would post message 200 to make it a 200BD to me!! Well so much for procrastination, I guess I better get going or she wont get moved!!LOL P.S. I hate moving in winter!!!!!
Was listening to the radio yesterday morning when a news article came up on the weather.
They stated that in Southern Ontario, schools and businesses were closing due to the weather, special 'warming shelters' were opening for those who had to be outdoors, etc. Temp was -23, windchills of -28.
The report went on to say that in Saskatoon, oh-hum, it was business as usual, temp was -33, windchill -43.
(Maybe Toronto will have to call in the Army to shovel their snow again! lol)
Sure, we complain about the cold too, but it doesn't really slow us down. Meanwhile…it's -33 (wc-37) right now, but the wife is out shopping, and I have to go shovel some snow, and split some wood for the fireplace……
We're getting the same cold snap here in Edmonton. When it drops below - 20 degrees I start drinking Guiness.
We're getting the same cold snap here in Burlington. When it drops below - 20 degrees I start reading Guiness or drinking Hot Chocolate.
we ARE getting the same cold snap here in Edmonton. With every pot of tea, I dream of dropping Jake off the highest Guiness cliff…
I know it's just too cold!! My gas line in my car froze on Thursday, spent an hour trying to get it going. They said on the radio today that by Monday it should be beach weather, only -11 and no wind!!! Oh yeah, only 11 more months of shopping days till Christmas!!!LOL!!!
Finally warming up now, in Montreal, its either cold or its snowing. Call Guiness, I actually made it to work every single day for about 3 weeks in a row now, despite the cold. About -30 something, and really -40 with the wind.
You should always use gas-line antifreeze available at Canadian Tire or your gas station. And always keep the tank at least half full.
I don't use the gas line antifreeze but I try to keep my tank full. reduces condensation so you don't need the antifreeze. woke up this morning and it was really really cold. my pilot on the furnace went out. lit that before dogs went out thats for sure. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Gas line antifreeze is always a good idea. It's cheap, can't hurt your car, and it could save your life- it did mine.
All my vehicles have a 1 litre jug of the stuff in the trunk now.
I use gas-line all the time, missed it just this last time when my son filled it up!!
if you kept the tank full it would not get condensation and you would not need the stuff.
Man I'm lucky to live on the coast where we're still wearing shorts. Little nippy in the shorts, but we're still wearing them.
It helps, but you can get a bit of moisture from previous warm days, bad gas from where you fill, even a little water or snow when you take your gas cap off. Usually, theres enough additive in the fuel to take care of this, but when it gets really cold, ice can form in lines and injector parts. Once, when I was coming back from visiting my sister in P.A., I was between Candle Lake and Weyerhauser, and the van started to slow down and sputter. I had lots of gas, so I knew it wasn't that. I stopped, poured in about 1/2 a litre of gas line antifreeze and took off again. After about 3-4 miles everything was O.K. I had my wife and kiddies with me, so it kind of shook me up. Ever since, we don't hit the road unless there's some gas line a/f in the trunk.
All you freaks living with temperatures below 0. Here its a nice 10 above, and its 10pm. The temperature differance is something like 50 degress. Thats like comparing Saudi Arabia to the Arctic. By the way, it was colder in Miami on Friday than it was here. Put that into perspective.
While you are all drinking stuff to make you feel warm, we're drinking stuff to feel cold. Who needs to go to Mexico? Cold there.
Ya I lived in BC before, but all that grey sure was depressing. The rain isn't all that bad when you prepare for it, ditch the umbrella and were a rain poncho.
Just how much of that stuff are you supposed to use? My tank is about 40L and I use the little 250ml size that comes in a six-pack at Canadian Tire. The 1/2 litre you use, Idjit, is that for a truck? My car stalls anyways b/c I've usually waited too long at a light plus my car is old.
What about those other gadgets used to help ensure cold winter starts:
-does that battery warmer that looks like a plastic blanket that wraps around your battery, does that work?
-the autostart is great for newer vehicles, but I fear it would put too much strain on the alternator. I don't bother with it.
-I have JumpStart just in case.
-I am seriously considering getting a pickup truck for my next vehicle. Seeing that I always manage to break the driver's seat with my weight, twisting back to reach the rear I'm looking forward to bench seats. A block heater and underside clearance made for winter would be nice too. Nothing too big though.</TT></font>
Those little bottles- I think they're more like 150 ml- are good too. I get the big bottle 'cause I pay 1.89 for it. Thats about 200% cheaper than the little bottles. The little bottles are a great preventative- .79 cents per fill and you're good to go. You can't hurt anything with the stuff, but I only used 1/2 litre that one time because I had a big problem.
I just use it on our van, my truck's a diesel and I gotta use something else for it.
I have battery blankets on my vehicles too- they extend the life of your battery and your starter, and they only take 50-90 watts power.
I'd be more scared of the Jumpstart than the autostart. My buddy cooked 3 batteries with his before he removed it. I've never heard of alternator problems caused by a remote starter.
Block heaters are standard here and really extend starter life.
Trucks are awesome. Can't go wrong there. I have a '95 one ton diesel that I tow our trailer with. Had trouble finding one that had comfortable seats, but the newer ones are much better.
Friday was the first real bad day in a while. Before that, it was real sunny and dry. Now, its raining just a little.
it was +10 here yesterday. It was nice.
i dont mind the cold most of the time. we only get the 2 weeks of intense cold as a rule. i lived in bc for a couple of years. like it here better. was in ontario for about 10
years
I went snowboarding up north today and it was -40, bRRRR
