I have an older computer with 3 HD and a CD-writer (Primary master, slave, Secondary master, slave) I kept all my important files (not operating system) on one hard drive and yesterday it went on the blink. I used it the day before and then it just would not even be recognized by the bios. I need the files off that drive, I am looking at spending huge bucks to get it done. (Data Recovery) have not found anything local and was wondering if the users here could help me. If someone could tell me where I could get it done around here? I found some in ontario for $600. for a best case recovery so far. Any help is appreciated. It's hard for me to ask for help (must be a guy thing), but I need it, maybe even DR could help (calgary might have a service). Help!
Sorry can only help with the master/slave thing…very intriguing. lol
first thing you gotta do is try the drive in a different computer! Don't do anything until you do that
eagle_fs's idead is good….a long time ago I used to know a guy who used to pirate software mostly games he took the cover off his drive and positioned the reader manuely….I'm not sure about this advice don't know anything much about computers and how they work get a 2nd oppinion…….GOOD LUCK MAY THE FOORCE BE WITH YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Recovering info from a dead hard drive can be very frustrating and expensive….
Does the drive power up at all? Can you hear the drive motor spinning?…..
As mentioned, carefully move the drive to another computer and try it over there (make sure all cables are connected properly). If still nothing you may want to try a utility called Active File Recovery, you can obtain a shareware copy at FILE-RECOVERY.NET If it finds your info you can buy the product for about $50.00 and use it to recover all of your data…..
I got one free off the internet and it got the info I needed (for the government) off my disk. It is called PC Inspector File Recovery. I will see if I can get my neffe to give me the web site again.
i fix computer for a hobby and partly for my work, so I know that a lot of times, stupid things like what is happening to you happens all the time for no reason. Sometimes, a cable inside is loose, sometimes its more, but anyways, if you try it in a different computer and it works, then you can most likely put it back in your computer and it would work again, or at least you could get the info off it while it was in the other computer.
No matter what, it's an easy first step.
CALL GREG AT ORANGE COMPUTER SASKATOON 1-306-382-9112 HE CAN FIX.
LOL @ 21
someone get a ladder to help 21M out the gutter.
lol
GOT NO LADDER TALL ENOUGH FOR THAT JOB.
For trouble free operation, and no master/slave worries:
Get a Mac.
Get a Mac.
WHAT DO BURGERS HAVE TO DO WITH HIS COMPUTER PROBLEM POOGA A LITTLE LESS BEER AND A BIT MORE THOUGHT ON THE PROBLEM AT HAND.
Today I tried my hard drive(another thing 21M might understand lol) in a different computer. The result was even in the BIOS the was no recognition that a drive was attached. I did feel it and in fact the motor was spinning, however without recognizing that a hard drive is attached I cannot access my files. The most important thing on the drive is digital pictures I have taken which I cherish. So I am still looking for a place that can recover info from a brainless hard drive. I will call that place in Stoon to see what they can do. Thanx for help so far, still if anymore ideas I want to hear them.
I have had a place here in Regina do data recovery for me.
I have a feeling you have the same problem I did.
The board on the hd is fried. No software can help, what you need to do is find a identical hd. this way you can use the board from the other HD identical to yours.
Switch the board from the good one, to the "bad" one.
take your information off. I suggest CD writer. to burn a cd costs less than a dollar now with a cd burner.
then you switch the board back to the good HD.
Problem is finding an identical HD to yours.
nearly every HD put out has a different board.
even the same manufacturers have different boards for different size hds & different speeds.
All this work is the reason it costs so much for data recovery.
Place I had it done was by an amatuer computer tech, who had a steady stream of HD's being past by him on a regular basis. even then it took him a month to do this work. To find this .. pretty common HD at the time.
Good luck Sramic!!
