posting links in new windows

For the information of all involved… you are posting a link and want it to show up in a new window, you should use the HTML standard of target="_blank" like this… Most people, myself included, have been using target="_new" which is not standard, and as a result can cause problems, such as with the chat window as MmmBeer discovered. As far as I can tell they both work, though I think only _blank is actually written into the W3 standard.

I realize that you can use whatever you want, however if you use a new that is already in use for another window, it will overwrite that window. That's why you should use "_blank" target. That target is treated specially and opens in a brand new window EVERY time; your method will overwrite whatever is any other window named "_origin".

well if I could actually understand what you are talking about to begin with, I would link anything that is verbally long so as not to waste space here. Like the one I added above. I could put it on my web site and link it to there.

And here I was using _blank when I first started but switched to _new because everyone else suggested it. Thanks dr, I will now have to start working on all my personal site pages!

While we're on the topic of HTML, if your posting a link to another site, you need to put the http://, or else it won't work. For pages within CMT, its fine.
