I am sorry but I still cannot understand the purpose. The messages do not disappear and they do not all turn grey.

depending ion the font size… a message is bold blue if it is unread..
regular blue for read…
where the grey comes in is your browser changes the blue to grey when you follow the link.
I think DR can change programming so there is no grey link when followed. but that is extra and usually a personal preference to the user not really by a programmer…
Side note… I think you can change that option in your browser somewhere too!!.
