i've been poking around this site . i find it very fascinating. (maybe y'all have seen it already) first off… it'll do what yahoo maps and mapquest will do if you enter any north american street address, but if you click on the satellite link (near top right corner), it will give a scrollable satellite image of the location you have specified. i could see the manhole cover in front of my house! give it a shot if that sorta thing interests you.
Wow, very cool! Thanks for sharing.
Gene you could not have said it better. Thx Rudy.
Great find rudyk! It's on my list now.
I'll have to look at some more, but the tightest I could get for a location here was a map approx. 4km X 4km. Not exactly manhole viewing, but still pretty cool.

i noticed that too when i tried to look in YOUR backyard, pooga. :) i had only checked addresses in regina, calgary and vancouver, which have GREAT resolution but saskatoon was crappy (well, the IMAGE was… i won't start the OTHER debate again). so i guess i should have warned everyone that their mileage and/or resolution might vary. (either that or the satellie sees saskatoon best the way many of the rest of us do… a little blurry and out of focus… :) ).
Very interesting. Unfortunatly the small town I live in isn't important enought to show up. I did check out a friend's place in Regina. And it was the only part of the city that was covered by cloud on the day the image was taken.
:) it is also about 5 years behind in the mapping. I looked up some addresses I was on yesterday.
Streets weren't even there
I thought it would be cool to be able to look up streets I need to know where they are before hand. but new streets aren't on it.
I spent about 3 hours look at this site last night.
retraced my vacations to Ottawa on to Helifax and vancouver driving down to the maxican boarder.
also discoverd that the white house and the capital building are blocked :P
lots of nice buildings in las vegas http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=36.096386,-115.174184&spn=0.005375,0.007832&t=k&hl=en
Way cool site. They have an interesting range of quality, resolutions and, er, up-to-datedness. Meaning that the Regina images seem to be quite recent (just look at the new construction at the airport and the university) but some other images (such as North Vancouver) are at least a year or two older. What a site, though! To be able to have all those images available, stitched together and searchable! Cool!
I forsee many hours of valuable time-wasting coming my way…
Just checked out my address…..the site says I'm across the street and down one house….hmmmm.
I will have to check out some of my friend's addresses and see what happens with them.

White House was ok in my view, but the Capitol building was blocked. Great view of the Mall and the Pentagon though! Check out the airbase north of Minot… 12 B-52's on the tarmac! And Miramar (north of San Diego) had dozens of fighters sitting there.
Some areas don't have any detailed data yet. For example, Kamloops doesn't, but just down the road at Salmon Arm the detail allowed me to remember a great golf course. Hit or miss on data, can't wait till they have a bit more though.
Thanks for the heads-up rudy! Because of you, I will now be wasting even more hours in front of the screen!!!
Thanks again rudy! I have now wasted countless hours on that site!
Tried the Punchbowl, Diamond Head and Waikiki in Hawaii, Las Vegas, the Golden Gate Bridge, Skydome, Statue of Liberty, much of Florida, including Disney World and the Kennedy Space Centre, even parts of Cuba (Havana Harbour, Veradero, Guantanamo Bay)and the Dominican Republic.
Am now planning an aerial photo 'trip' up the Mississippi. God knows how long THAT will take at the highest resolution!!
So, for supplying a geography addict with a major fix, I thank you again!
That is so neat rudyk! I got this map at work already, but didn't know about the satellite feature. I could even see if there would be a car in front of my house. Thanks for sharing that :)
