Downward trend of hits.

Indeed the trend of hits is spiraling downward.
I am just wondering what everyone would attribute this to!
Reasons why the trend should be the other way.

  1. As time goes on we are gaining more members, adding more bills.
  2. Our Economy is in overdrive, where everyone has more money to spend. Infact our economy is at the strongest point it has been in years.

Reasons the hits may be falling.

  1. 3 new notes have been issued in the recent year +. $20, $50, $100.
We still see the old $20's & $50's, but are our marked ones being taken out of circulation?
  2. Are the # of anonymous hits falling cause once 1 person enters an anonymous hit. They tend not to hit another bill?

Other points to ponder GOOD or BAD? What do you think?

LC, i believe all of your points are valid, and I also got a strange comment while I was on holiday from a person who got my money… The comment was, " the website is probably a virus." I of course set that straight, but have received no results on that bill..Ther are probably other out there that think that way..

i think that it is patently obvious that diffusion of these marked notes has reached saturation in the former hotbed of tracking, saskatchewan, and that is behind most of the downward trend (i wouldn't quite call it a "spiral" yet). the theory states that there is a maximum level of adoptors of an "innovation" such as money tracking. my contention is that we have reached that here in saskatchewan and since this region has been at the forefront of growth, that is reflected in the overall statistics.

although i have not had time to verify this, i suspect from anecdotal evidence and cursory examination of the hits, that most of the people who would likely adopt (join) the site have already done so in saskatchewan and most of those who would potentially enter notes anonymously, have already done so and are not willing to subsequently enter more. a few hours with the hit tables over the last few months would verify this, i believe.

my own personal take on this is that this is largely a result of "flooding the market" so to speak with copious numbers of marked notes. my suspicion is born out by almost coincident occurrence of a leveling off and then decline in total site hits with the participation of a few, shall we say, energetic money trackers in the saskatchewan region. more and more we see that it is only the hits that we members give each other that is fueling any momentum the phenomenom has.

until we reach the "adoption" level of activity in other areas of the country (west coast, southern ontario/quebec, and atlantic canada) we are unlikely to see the lofty gains the site experienced in 2003. well, either that or we perhaps convince members that "flooding the market" is counterproductive to our "growth".

well… you asked for an opinion… you got it. :)

Keep your fingers crossed.

At the current rate we should be up around 2000 for the month. However with Easter coming up, we may have some slow days.

Pooga.. being the 9th.. almost a 1/3 of the way though the month and being at 557 hits.. hmm i would say that looks to average out to be about 1700 - 1750 this month. February is a shorter month… so 1630.. :)

As for what bdkingston said about the virus.. :) I actually don't doubt people thinking that.. many people don't know what a virus is.. they don't realize that you have to run a file which with the proper permissions set for internet, you will never catch a virus.

Going along with the virus & pushing it 1 step farther.. Drug dealers think this is a way the Police track the money.. LOL Funny Saskatchewan even took off.. Knowingly or not.. I bet everyone on the site knows someone who smokes pot. I would even bet.. that includes anyone who is a Cop or RCMP on the site.

Another note.. there is alot of people who do NOT have internet. Some people would fall into category 1 & 2.. but there are some who simply can't afford internet.. but would join the site.

Let's see, 8PM on the 9th. 565/9*31=1946 (with a few hits probably coming yet today.)

10PM on the 9th. 573/9*31=1974

As someone who has had the internet less than a year, I had found a few marked bills before, but never entertained the thought of going to the library to enter them. I may be a 'Tracker' on this site, but I'm a 'Newbie' when it comes to computer use.

Another point that no one has mentioned is competition from other sites. I picked up a Willy note about a week ago, and when I entered it out of courtesy, I discovered that I was the fifth person to hit it, in New Brunswick, since last October. The point I am trying to make is that in some regions, other sites are well established and there are only so many individuals willing to join a site. I suspect that, in this area, Willy has scooped up some potential CMTers.
