Miss 21, for your information we do NOT live in the same city. I live in Sherwood Park. You live in Edmonton. And you won't find any of my bills at the Yellowhead Casino. Time to loosen the tutu. I think perhaps it got shrunk at the drycleaners.
Sherwood Park & Edmonton & St. Albert
to me that is like saying Surrey , Richmond * vancouver & west vancouver are not the same city.
Well Lord Comedy you are Dead wrong this time- Surrey, Richmond, Burnaby are all separate Cities with there own municipal governments they just all grew together over time- If you want to call it Greater Vancouver to be politically correct, then go for it. As for Sherwood Park and St.Albert I'am sure that it is the same scenario but I may be wrong on this.
Aardvark Stamp& Seal Inc. Red Deer
Had them made the way I wanted They did a good job and picked them up the next day.Have a blue stamp and a red stamp which one did you see?
Not dead wrong.. I know they are their own cities.
There is no seperation in the cities.
100 years from now think they will all still have their own municipalities?
They are all basically burbs.
Governments are always making cuts. don't you think that would be a powerful way to save alot of money.
Cut the 4 - 5 cities Vancouver is currently down to 1
just think how many less people they would have on the boards.
cut it in about half.
Unfortunately I am not from BC let alone Vancouver to suggest it to cut taxes.
Even Phoenix .. 5 - 6 cities is already considering it.

Actually, as much as I hate to admit it [grin], LC is right. I've been dealing with municipal planning for 10 years now, and attended a couple of conferences on the subject.
In the 1990s, Quebec legislated a reduction in municipalities from around 2000 down to about 1200 (I can't remember the exact numbers). The opposition to the plan was intense, especially around Montreal. Politicians just didn't want to give up their little fiefdoms.
Now the Saskatchewan government has 'requested' that municipalities and school districts do the same thing voluntarily. Even bigger opposition! But Saskatchewan has 3000 municipalities, including cities, towns, Rural Municipalities, resort villages, etc. The savings brought about by amalgamation would huge. (Although there are limits to how big a municipality can get…sheer physical size can be a detriment as well.) Some RMs don't even have an office, but lease space in a neighbouring RM. But again, the local politicians would have too much to lose.
I remember a prof at the U of S that studied the situation in Saskatchewan. We talked about it in his class and he really opened up my eyes when he started discussing how much money is wasted operating each municipality. It's like talking highways though, suggest that about 1/3 of our paved roads should be turned back to gravel, and you'll have to duck pretty quick- just ask Pat Lorje!
Paved roads are much nicer to drive on.
I think many people would agree Esp people in Regina
That there is too much goverenment.
If we could cut out an entire level of government. ( provincial) just look at how much less money would be spent on government & in the pockets of the people.
After world war 1 A bigger income tax was instated to "pay the debt" ( of the war ) we are still in debt. & the government waste too much money.
Paved roads are much nicer to drive on.
Try this for simple math…
Saskatchewan has 3% of Canada's population. It also has 45% of Canada's roads.
We can't afford to have them all paved!
yea simple math says if we have 45 % of Canada's roads the rest of Canada should be paved.
That and some of the grid roads we do have should be eliminated. Which is tough cause I am pretty sure we also have more small towns than any other provinvce.
BC ( mostly mountains.. tough to have to many towns.)
Alberta small towns got weeded out in the 70's .. anything still around is almost dead or thriving..
Saskatchewan.. ( that's us )
Manitoba Farther east. simular to Alberta gone or thriving.
Only some of western manitoba is still in the saskatchewan mode. .. but mostly gone.
anything east of that is east east.. Old culture .. Completely gone .. or pretty big not nessessarily thriving but not worried about dying.
Yukon & NWT are the only places that haven't gone though the thriving or dying stage, but the great west north is undeveloped.
TORONTO DID IT AND IT IS VERY SMART MOVE TO SAVE ON MONEY BUT HARD TO GET THE ELECTED FEW TO CUT THEIR OWN THROATS BY JOINING.
