The code for the monthly hit count has been changed. Actually, it's been fixed. In the past it counted 'hit heaven' hits in the count, but it now only shows proper verified hits (except in the current month where unverified hits are also displayed).
Anyway, so that means that for the past year all the monthly hit count winners may potentially have been wrong. If someone is ambitious, they may want to go back and double check all the winners. :)
