Does anyone have a feel for how much more effective the bill-marking is if you use a stamp vs ball-point pen vs fine-tipped felt etc?
What about just putting the web address and not 'track this bill' on it?
It seems that it should be self explanitory but maybe those with experience and lots of hits can elighten us newbies?
Thanks
Interesting question. I mostly use a smaller stamp (2 lines) with the website name and and website, using red ink and stamp notes on both sides. My hit rate has been fairly constant at about 6.5% for several years. I have NEVER had a hit on a note that I did NOT stamp, I have probably entered a couple of hundred of these over the years. I see that Dr JD and Pooga have consistant hit rates of well over 20% and wonder what they do different than me. Maybe one of you could shed some light on the subject. I have never been fortunate to come across one of your notes–in fact I have not hit anyone's notes for over 2 years. (August 2,2007)
All methods work.. They have to be noticed… If what you write or stamp on the note is noticable, then those that are curious will follow up…
I always do both side of the note.
First and formost be creative in your stamp- bank tellers tell me that they see numerous bills with one or two lines that all say the same thing- but when you have something different it draws attention to the bill and curiosity as to what the site is all about.
These are my personal views as it has worked well for me over the six years on the site.
You also have to change things up ever once and while as people see the same thing all the time and will loose any interest in entering the data we all request on getting a hit.
……. and one more thing stamp both sides black or red as worked for me.
OK. Some common themes in the replies…
Use a stamp (be original)
Mark both sides of the bills.
I've only entered a few bills so far but have only marked the one side (serial number side). I have not gotten the stamp yet. I guess Staples is a good place to go for that (based on other posts in the forums).
IT seems like you are on track..
