Do you or the branch you're in have a rule of thumb when it comes to sending notes for destruction? Or are there system wide guidelines?
i.e. Is ANY tape okay, or are they automatically dust?

in all honesty, every bill that we have been giving out lately, looks terrible. (especially the 5's and 10's) however, the rule, if the bill is ripped, or doodled, or taped up (if the bill has been ripped), then we do send them on.
What burns me, is when I give new bills to some, and they crumple it all up and stick in their front pocket. I have become smart tho, and now that I know my members, I give the NEW bills to those who put them away with care, and I give the aweful bills that need starch and ironing to those I know will just stuff in their pocket. (mostly men) lol
I am sure there are stiffer guidelines, however, I do get alot of cash in that are just as bad, or if not worse, when they go to the mute pile.
If the tape is on them, and the bill is not ripped, then I try to take off the tape with care. hope this helps a little.
I agree that a lot of $5's now out there look horrible. I think over 50% of the $5 bills in the till at work today are fit to be destroyed, as well as the handful of $10's we had.
you mean all my careful taping, (hours of it) are being removed or causing the ashes to ashes syndrome??
It would help if you clarify a bit about the taping. I tend to tape if there are tiny tears and the rest of the bill is in good condition. Am I making the situation worse?
Dont' get me wrong in the tape thingy… Just because I send some bills to be mutilated, doesnt mean that BofC will destroy them. They could very well put them back into circulation (which they certainly do).
Any tape on a bill, does get sent away. If the bill is crispy and there is a small piece of tape on it, no I won't send it to get mutilate.
