I'm a member of CMT for about 6 months and I noticed at the beginning that a part of the SN numbers are hided.
And today, I've read this in the forum :
''Please do not disclose the serial number of banknotes in open forum - removing the prefix is not sufficient.
Coudl someone give me some explanation for that ? I dont understand the problm with a whole SN, if it's the way to find and track our bills !!
There's no personnel or confidential information in these numbers !

great to have you here! the reason that we do not disclose serial numbers here is it would allow others reading the forum to enter that note and generate a "false hit". since we are really only concerned with hits that occur in circulation, this would taint the accounting. it would be possible for all readers of the forum to enter the same note and everyone (except the last) would get credit for a hit. and so if you type in the whole serial number in a forum sometime, don't be surprised if one of the site assistants modifies your post with a "***"!
