Short roadtrip this year. Friday we drove to Great Falls MT via Elkwater AB and Havre MT. Saturday was to Spokane, and today to Seattle.
The drive from Great Falls to Missoula on US 200 is simply magnificent! The last time we were in Missoula was 1978. It's still a beautiful town.
After crossing the Columbia into western Washington, I'm still upset that the Brits would give it to the Americans in 1846! Canada would have been a very different place if BC extended south to Oregon!
ttyl!
I often think the same, what if we settled on the 48th, or 46th? What about if the Russians would of sold us Alaska?!
If the Russians would of had 100 years of foresight they would never of sold it to the USA.

I hate to say it as this is going to cause a debate. I have no issues with Americans. I admire their pride in their country and their want to take a stand in this world. Maybe people consider their motives wrong. But I do want them on my side for sure. I never heard a word on how Saddam and Osama were prolific leaders for their country
I would buy Alaska for 7.2 million too
Oh, it was nothing about American bashing, I was just wondering what would have happened if borders had been slightly altered,
For example, besides the one mentioned above, what if the British had kept Detroit and Mackinac Island after the War of 1812? Would the border have been at the 47th parallel? If the Brits had won the Battle of Plattsburgh, would upper New York, New Hampshire and Maine be Canadian, and how would that have changed history?
Or if Ben Franklin hadn't gotten his way and Isle Royale was given to the Americans? Would the start of the border on Lake Superior been at Duluth instead of the Rainy River.
Farther back, what if the New Brunswick/Maine border had gone directly west from Campobello Island instead of following the the Saint Croix river to the NNW? Most of that part of the country was French anyway.
And of course, the whole Lake of the Woods/Northwest Angle border has never made sense to me!
And I do enjoy historical fiction. Try "The two Georges" for example!
Wow. I never knew that until today, but I never had to go east ever before. It is amazing how some decisions have such an impact.
Actually, I am also surprised at how many people don't that France has some territories on the coast of Newfoundland called Saint Pierre and Miquelon. I discovered that by accident quite a few years ago.
Btw, The Two Georges sounds like a book I should check out!
