Fine, I'll be the one to ask. Since the forums seemed to have melted and it's so quiet around here.
It is hot enough for me. No a/c and for the 2 weeks of the year we NEED it, I'm not getting it. Of course during this two weeks of the year every year, I really, really want it. Considered dipping into the blind fund (my savings to buy new blinds) for it on the weekend, but why buy a window a/c unit, if someday we get central air, then what do you do with the expensive window unit?
Last night the house did not cool off, got maybe 2 hours sleep, so now that I am done arguing with myself in the forums, I will go spritz myself with water and sit in front of a fan.
Did I mention, yes it is hot enough for me.
Toodles.
ahhh… i remember those days fondly. restively figiting though the night… being kept awake by the "drip… drip… drip" of your own perspiration. retreating vainly to the basement to find that one cool patch of bare concrete against which to splay one's supine form. discovering that there is no such thing as "the cool side of the pillow" … when one measures its turn in rpm.
i've had a/c for 10 years and although i almost never run it through the night, the last two nights i have. and i've slept like the proverbial chunk of cordwood these last few nights. the best money i've ever spent.
DO stay hydrated (sweat is the best defense against the heat). go find a mall or movie to spend some time in. (it is amazing how long you can drag out grocery shopping!) and whatever you do, DO NOT ask anyone, "is it hot enough for you?" – the savage thrashing you prevent may be your own! :)
I bought a small simplicity air condition for my bedroom last year when I was working nights. no way to sleep in the summer without it. I think it was 129 bucks. it is on constantly these days, night and day. anyhow back to my room to read a nice book in my 68 degree room. ;o))
Nope, the tires on my car haven't melted yet…… ;o)
Talk to my sister in Europe today its even HOTTER there than here +45 in the shade and no wind to speak of.
There is not a single air-conditioner left to buy in the whole province of Sask. I'm gonna hate to see the price of them when the stores finally do get some in. I really think this heat might kill me! ;)
C.J. WELL your suffering for no reason at all. Now as pointed out you may not find any air conditioners in the city after the heat wave but buying one is both an investment and a health issue. Keeping cool will help keep your health in this heat and unless you damage the portable a/c you will be able to sell it when you no longer need it for the same price as you paid for it. Timing is everything … you buy the unit and use it for a few years until you get central air then when we get the record heat wave is when you place the used conditioner in the paper to sell. When all the stores are sold out you may actually end up with a bidding war. Many years ago in the early 80's I bought a snow blower after a major snow storm (I was not in the snow business then) after that year I was lucky to use the beast once a year for the next five years then we got another mayor snow fall and after I did my own driveway I place that blower in the paper for sale … one day add had my phone ringing off the hook and I sold that unit for $150.00 more than I had bought it for years ago. If I had 20 blower that day they would have all sold … the yrar before that i put the same blower in the paper for three days and did not get one call and was priced $300.00 lower than I sold it for a year later.
Timing is everything when it comes to selling some items.
Keep cool play at the mall or the movies and escape the heat … I put my staff on half days due to the heat and bought them a fridge full of Pooga brew. Thats my 2 cents on the topic. (I missed the boat again could have bought a dozen room air conditioners and rented them out)
It's not the heat, it's the humidity. :-)
I've had AC for 17 years. I work a lot of night shifts, and I learned my lesson the hard way about 20 years ago. Sleeping in a partially finished basement, I ended up in the hospital with pleurisy. Talk about painful! The nurses told me that the only thing as painful is childbirth. Not even passing a kidney stone.
However I did discover the joys of Demerol.
Try sleeping in the sleeper of a semi in some of these communist places(new york for example)that don't allow idleing of a vehicle to run the A/C. Its impossible to get air flow in there.
2 nights ago on our last hot hot day checked my lizards's cage and it said 41 degrees… he was loving it while we roasted… think it's time to buy an air conditioner next year… or to have accepted one of the 16 free ones given away on freecycle so far this year!
P.S. Pooga… that sounds like tourgurl… she has most of those symptoms so we are tearing out carpetand she was placed on a few new drugs due to asthma, allergies and sleeping in a damp basement… finally got to where she was sleeping on the kitchen floor… as for passing kidney stones… child birth is harder! Trust me on that point.
