I thought I would post this here for several reasons.
a) the comment on the hit. Just a reminder to us that dr is doing this totally on his own. He is spending money on it, with no sponsors.
b) If there are any programming types out there interested in helping out, I am sure dr would be willing share the workload.
c) we've given dr a looooonnng list of desired improvements. Maybe we should prioritize them so that dr has a specific target when he does have time to work on the site again.
Pooga by the Zip Code the comment came from an American who found the bill and yes this is a Canadian Money Tracking site … as per the name. I would not give that persons comment any merit at all. CMT is great and DR. does a fine fine job. If others (non members)do not like the fact this site is dedicated to Canada then the solution is simple drop by for a visit and move on. Canadian money is what we track here … plain and simple.

I am not going to be to detailed, but the zip code thing would be nice, BUT. A long time ago someone said something about finding where postal code are costs money.
I would assume this would be the same for zip codes.
I agree with BC to a major degree this is Canadian Money Tracker not American Money Tracker.
To a small degree I disagree with BC cause our Money does dip down into the states & goes international.
as much as it may rock the natural order of things to its very foundation, i have to agree with BC. i spent about 7 nanoseconds being concerned over the comments made by one more arrogant american who thinks that they are the centre of the universe (anyone ELSE find that "ZIP code" is just a little too 1950s?). demarcation is justified, acceptable and just tickety-boo, so having this site restricted to canadian territory works just fine. we mark a miniscule percentage of canadian banknotes, the vast majority of which circulate IN canada. the infinitessimal proportion of our marked banknotes that find their way outside our borders is certainly not worth getting your panties in a wad over. those who feel that outliers should govern the tracking of canadian money can always find respite over at whereswilly. [shudder]
anyone ELSE find that "ZIP code" is just a little too 1950s?
Nope, because ZIP codes weren't introduced by the USPS until 1963.
Seriously though, I've only seen the aforementioned American request for ZIP codes to be added, plus a handful of others entered from the US, but with a postal code from the Canadian city in which it was found. It would be interesting to see hits from the US, but since we only seem to get a small number of bills in the hands of Americans, I think only tracking them in Canada is fine.
Most ZIP codes can be located for free on the USPS website, Wikipedia's articles on Zip codes or on some online Yellow page sites. Linking them, however, I'm not so sure about.
I'm with the rest of you fellers- why we would spend 15 seconds to pacify some self-important whiny, cry-my-eyes-out-'cause-you-didn't-think-of-me feriner is beyond me anyway. Especially one who is so pathetically trying to start a schoolyard fight over something he knows nothing about. I've probably spent way too many electrons on this putz already…
Here's a suggestion:
Find a postal code for an infintesmally (yes, I made up this word, but I think it is understood) remote community in one of the territories that nobody has ever entered a bill at. Have a box on the title page page saying something like "International users: did you find this bill outside Canada, AND intend to recirculate it outside Canada? If so, then please use this postal code (that northern community) and enter in the comments section a description of where you got it."
This would give the bill some mileage
If that seems a little busy for international users, then TFB.
I think Sarge has a great point.. that would work for international use.
I applaude the thought.
I cannot believe that both Lord Comedy and Rudyk agreed with me. Now this must be a first. After I picked myself off the floor from reading their comments I ran outside to look for a blue moon. Now I think I would have passed right out of this world if shewolf and wally also had commented on the thread and agreed with me. That would have been more of a shock then my poor heart could take.
Lets keep it Canadian but I do like the idea of a special postal code for international hits.

How about a Postal Code put into the system by DR. that could be : " U5A 0S0 " and name the place "OutaCanada"
just a suggestion.

:) that is kinda neat U5A 0S0 :)
Might be a good idea to reply and explain why in the forum.
I think it may be more likely to be added ESP with U5A 0S0
I didn't understand U8A
That would really be a great idea to have something like that available for different countries. A canadian bill could show up anywhere in the world, since lots of tourists exchange their money in their homeland. They wouldn't know what the canadian postalcode looks like and could maybe just enter the first six letters of their country or something like that.
