info on postal codes and map blast...

would that be a MapBlast error then? BTW - I just went to the MapBlast site and entered my PC there. It was much more accurate, maybe only a half a block out.

Mapblast obviously has a database that has lat/long coordinates for complete postal codes. The database I purchased only has lat/long coordinates for the FSA (the first 3 characters of the postal code) for urban PC's. Even the expensive database that I first looked at only had that.

However, the way I programmed the new system, it supports expanding the database. So, for example, the database has T3G in the general area of my house. However, I took a GPS reading an put my exact location in for my specific postal code. So T3G 1E3 uses my specific entry, but T3G 1E5 would use the general postal code of T3G. If you want an exact entry for your postal code, you can email it to me. Here's how to find out what the lat/long for your postal code is:

  1. go to www.mapblast.com
  2. select Canada and enter in your postal code
  3. if the resulting map looks good, change the scale of the map by clicking on either "Zoom In" or "Zoom Out". After you do that, the URL location bar in your browser will show the new URL, which will include the lat/long in it as such:

http://www.mapblast.com/…CT=51.1169631%3A-114.188802…

Make sure you don't click anywhere on the map as that will change the center of the map and muddle up the lat/long. Then take that above info and send me an email similar to this:

dr (username)
T3G 1E3 (postal code)
home (what is at the postal code)
51.1169631 (lat)
-114.188802 (long)

When I get a chance, I will enter your complete postal code in the database, and from then on, all you hits will be a bit more exact.
