Yup. That's why I programmed "pagination" for the message boards today. When I deploy the next version (1.5.1) later this month, the list of messages will be broken into pages. Much, much nicer. In fact I'm using it right now (while testing).
As for archiving, umm, not sure what I'm going to do there yet. The beauty of this pagination code is that it solves the "too many messages problem" and allows me to put off the archiving thing for a bit more.
