In ones personal OVERVIEW at the bottom of the box the is Donation with a '$'….whats that all about?

I also wondered what it meant.

I always assumed it meant how much someone donated to this site

Onetobeseen is correct. If you make a donation to the dite it will show up in that spot…

how would you donate money to the site, and why would you donate money to the site?

Allow me to answer that question from one member to another. The creator of this site (DR) put in many hours of his own time to start up this site and along with his time many dollars to supply the original startup and many upgrades over the years of the equipment to operate and maintain the site, As well there are monthly costs for server space and many other costs to run a site maintained daily. For years he did all the work solo and just last year took on help from a group of members to handle day to day operations. The five selected members give freely of their time to handle tasks on a daily basis on the site allowing DR time outside of CMT. DR is a very busy person and site assistants now do many jobs on the site that when DR was busy might have taken a few days. DR has never asked for donations and some of us wanted to share in the upkeep of the site so we sent him money as we felt the desire to do so. The Donation item mentioned keeps track of any donation you make for one year and then donations made over a year past are dropped. This site has always been run on a free to user basis and for many years was free of any advertising. An extremely fine job involving one persons time and money without any rewards for his effort seemed unfair to some of us and we gladly help out when we feel the desire to do so. Now how some of us send our donations is to mail them directly to DR. and he in turn enters the donation bills to the site. Now with the addition of site assistants that system may have changed and one of those gentleman may shed more light on that area.

Now in closing I would like to say over the last few months I have been very vocal over a few issues on the site and tend not to cut any slack for the site assistants. These gentleman do put alot of time and effort into their tasks on the site and as much as it may seem that I do not appreciate their efforts I truly do. Their dedication to the site and daily upkeep for the most part is flawless and usually goes on without us even knowing they are working behind the scene. This site is run by long time members who enjoy the site and have the time and skills to help it run smoothly for our enjoyment.
I am a long time member who enjoys the site on a daily basis and would truly miss it if it was gone… to donate a few dollars every year is just my way of saying Thank You.
