I made a quick change to the SMS code and then did a test today and I received a hit notification on my cell phone. So I'm pretty sure that SMS hit notification is now working (at least for Telus users).
In order for this to work you need to ensure that SMS notification is checked on your preferences page and that you've entered your cell number and provider on your profile page (at least a couple people are missing one or the other or both).

Got several notifications! I love it!
BUT… I didn't tell my wife about it, so she was a bit preturbed when the phone announced a message while she was in a meeting in Toronto!
Needless to say, I have had to turn the hit notification off.
