Are you kidding Pooga the ones we have now aren't forty years old yet! We use the Grizzly made by GM in London. And besides Canada prefers the cheap junk!!

Wrong forum, I know, but to continue the thread.. Sarge sent me this info which I thought was interesting:

The version that Canada is buying 60 of has the 105mm 'tank' gun. The version New Zealand is buying has the 25mm chain gun. Canada already has 580 with the 25mm chain gun, and 71 TUA variant.

Forget the light tank, the LAV-3 with 105mm gun is better than a light tank. What we need is a REAL tank. Of course, the M1A2 Abrams is the best in the world, but far out of our price range.

But a good alternative, proven in desert warfare is the MERKAVA, from Israel

especially since it can carry a small group of infantry - going back to the proven effectiveness of 'panzer-grenadiers'

Or the British CHALLENGER2 is a good option also.

Just thought I'd be specific on one point…the LAV-3 with 105mm gun is better than a light tank with the same gun(IMHO). If the light tank has a 120mm, than no contest…we lose.
