E-waste in Saskatchewan

What do you do with your old computer equipment, TVs, etc? A friend of mine recently needed to dispose of 20 CPUs and over 50 monitors. He discovered that there was no safe way to dispose of them!

E-waste is becoming a major component of waste and can be very hard on the enviroment.

Interesting read! I was wondering what a person was to do with their old stuff……other than toss it out the third story window of an apartment block…lol

Some of the stuff is well beyond upgrading or rebuilding. However, I am sure that there is plenty of stuff that is reusable as well. Through work we donate a lot of stuff to Computers for Schools and from my business/home to Computers for Kids…

A very intersting read. It is amazing how much stuff can be recovered from old computers /tvs.

a couple of years ago, i was a judge at the Canada-Wide Science Fair (coincidentally, in saskatoon, pooga). one project that i had the honour of judging demonstrated an innovation whereby crushed printed circuit boards (motherboards, other add-in cards, etc) were used as aggregate in a cement, instead of the usual gravel. this was quite an ingenious use of e-waste by a couple of grade 10 students. and most impressive was these kids' recognition of the growing problem, as well as their workable solution. of course, the idea will be lost because its far easier and cheaper to just throw this material away.

as an aside, this wasn't even one of the fair's BETTER projects – i challenge anyone who laments the state of our youth to attend one of these events – your opinion of our future will change.

I have watched a few show on computer waste, it's a growing problem around the world.

to rudyk, I totally agree with you on attending youth science fairs. I have been a judge in Regina for the past 4 years and I am always amazed by the ingenuity of some of the students.
