Oh yes I have the perfect answer for that problem antics……..Move to BC!!!!!!! I also hate wood ticks.
Or Edmonton, we noticed one stuck in my daughter's head during her check up,the dr. didn't no what a wood tick was. We just pulled it off, and the dr was grossed out!! Even the nurses hadn't seen one before!
What the heck is a woodtick? Never heard of them before.
its a little insect, with eight legs.. its flat, and it sucks the blood out of you, and really digs in..
sounds like i am defining LC, but i really aint!! honest!!
look it up, there are alot of types out there.
LC.. ;.. jk!
They are little tiny bugs, almost beetle like, that attach themselves (or bite) and fill up on blood until they get so full and look like a pumpkin seed then fall off and lay millions of eggs to do the same thing. So far they don't seem to have much of a purpose, and not many things eat them. They arrive in April (approx) and stay until it gets real hot. If you want I can send you some, seems maybe this might only be a Saskatchewan thing??? Oh, and they are more in the grass than in the trees!
lots in saskatchewan…
dad went to pick some stuff up in the bush.. came over, and was PACKED!!!!! gross!… i shoo'ed him outside as fast as he came in…
I watched where he walked, and found 10 on the floor!!!
The best thing about woodticks is that they can't fly!
Pulling a woodtick out can leave the head in to cause infection… so a safer way is to get them out is to get them to back out. The way that works best for me is I light a match, blow it out and put the hot stick near the tick…it doesn't like the heat and it backs out giving you a opportunity to grab it-head,legs and all. You can't feel them on you so you should check the warm areas like the arm pits, groin and hair. They also go on animals so check your pets and horses and cows etc. They can even get larger than a pumkin seed.
I've used gasoline to get them off. (but NO match!).
Biggest worry is Lyme Disease. Especially prevalent in Ontario.
I would suggest the following sites:
<a href=http://www.lyme.org/gallery/ticks.html target=_blank>http://www.lyme.org/gallery/ticks.html</a>
<a href=http://www.petcaretips.net/ticks_lymedisease_rockymountain_spotted_fever.html target=_blank>http://www.petcaretips.net/ticks_lymedisease_rockymountain_spotted_fever.html</a>
I pull them off and look to see if the head is still there. if not then I will worry. they are hard to squish. the dogs get them and they dont even leave the yard during tick season. (except the one who escapes and he gets an immediate bath). they fall off birds too so that is how they get in my yard. i tried the match thing etc and it did not work. even had one die and he was still embedded. i use a tweezers, and make sure I have a really good grip and slowly pull. there is a spray you can get for animals but i dont like pesticides.
If the heat trick doesn't work, I've heard you can smother them out with vaseline. They will back out. They are very strong little guys!
with 6 dogs to go over, I need something faster plus vaseline is no an option on these hair balls.
are WOODticks anything like ANtics?… :)
HA HA HA, NO THEY ARE WORSE
