This would help people stay current & would help a friendly competitive nature.
I know a few people said this isn't a game & not a competition. To those people- Are you telling me you don't look at your score & where you are in the score board?

With a few people liking the idea. & going with what Sarge said, instead of resetting. Just having anything done after the 52 week times zone, drop off.
Instead of having it 52 weeks.. maybe a shorter time would be better.. say 12 weeks. This would make it more of a Currrent Leaders board.

Even with a current leaders board. Any hits from old bills entered before the time mentioned would count as a hit cause it in in your time zone of being current.

1 big problem I see even if everyone liked the idea, it might be very difficult to program.

I am happy to see Pooga & Sarge some of the long time users on the site like the idea.
I'ld like to see what Idjit would have to say on this, being, by far the person who has the most hits & bills entered. Idjit would have the most to lose, being #1
As it is, it is only an idea. One I thought might make the site better. Just cause a few people like it, doesn't mean everyone will. And there are gonna be bad suggestions.

I am sure DR is always open to suggestions of how to make the site better. He ultimately has the final say.

PS. in the betterment of ideas, look from how it has changed since I initally posted. same idea, looks much different.

YOU ARE A GOOD IDEA MAN … AND I LIKE YOUR INPUT. IN FACT I SHOULD SUPPORT YOU 100% AS WOULD BE A GOOD THING FOR ME PERSONALLY. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE TWO SYSTEMS ONE BEING CURRENT & ONE BEING TOTAL SINCE THE START OF THE SITE. A 12 WEEK WINDOW WOULD ALSO BE NICE AS NUMBER ONE SPOT WOULD BE CLOSER TO SOME OF THE MORE ACTIVE PLAYERS. AND YES IT IS A GAME BUT MORE HERE FOR THE TRACKING OF MY MONEY. :-)

I think I could endorse this system it does have some merit- yes there would need to be some fine tuning , but I think I can see where you are coming from on this issue- I can tell you have been putting a fair amount of time and thought into this project and with out discussion and new ideas we all become stagnate in our thought process we should always have a open mind on such things- Thats my comments let's here some others

Otaku

Am I understanding you correctly, it is only the CMT score that would fluctuate? We would still keep our hits. So in practice, if I had 10 hits and someone else had 20 hits, I could have the higher CMT score if I got those hits in the specified time frame but the other person got them more spread out timewise?

I do want to keep my hits, but I don't care a whole lot about the CMT score if you want to play with it. I do check it, but I am such a minor player in that arena that it doesn't mean a whole lot. With your system, I would just ignore the CMT score completely.

i'm with otaku on this. i'm just not very big on the competitive aspect of this. tracking money is fun and intellectually stimulating. the scoring system is arcane and any changes proposed just make it more so. when the competition becomes foremost, then this site no longer is "fun". i know i won't be a part of it. the times when people here have MADE it all about scoring and ranking, that is when i've felt most like chucking it. i truly believe that competition will kill this site faster than anything.

the scoring system in place is fine. it keeps people who need to compete fairly happy. is it ever going to please everyone?… no. that's the nature of the beast. i am a LOT more impressed by idjit's 6000 hits and their distribution than i am by his 1,077.9395 points (wow… precise to the 10,000th of a point!).

As far as a secondary sytem is concerned, I would be in favour of ONE new stat. Any more than that takes away from the history of the notes already circulated. And it would cause a lot more work for dr.

And we already have a weekly CMT score in the Monday newsletter.

So to modify Sarge's remarks then, I would suggest that one additional score be added to the current drop down menu choices. Call it a "Who's Hot" category if you will. FOR THIS CATEGORY ONLY, only bills entered and hits received in the last 8 weeks (as an example) would count.

If a person has a good week or two of entering bills, or a sudden rash of hits, their reward would be a temporary position on the charts. And I would think that the hits would weigh heaviest in this setup. I think that this 'vanity board' would encourage newer users a bit, as looking at the top 15s right now, which rarely change, might make people think "why should I enter bills, I don't do enough to make a difference."

A current counter, in addition to the many historical ones we have now just might spice things up for many people.

rudyk

or, pooga, to REALLY spice things up and encourage people would be a REAL "Who's hot" list. we just all agree to submit how many times we have… um… "submitted" in the last 8 weeks. all the newbies can then REALLY look in awe of the "old masters". instead of "hits" we keep track of "it". it'd put a whole new cant on "scoring"! and it'd really give more incentive to meet in person!

(ahem) incentive to the newbies is already taken care of in the scoring. it's very easy for a newbie to move up quickly – i was fascinated at how i shot up the ranks in the early days. it's only "boring" to all the old farts, whose position doesn't change. (if you want "excitement", see paragraph one, above. :) ) it's dr's expressed intent to grow the site slowly. the present system does that just fine.

again, if someone wants competitive juices flowing, there are many good shuffleboard leagues in operation. i really don't think that the reason people come to this site or STAY here is the "competition". why would we want to highlight or augment that?

well my opinion is DR is doing a great job and i am thrilled to be part of it and all I got to say about changes are "whatever whatever". I like things the way they are sheesh. But opinions are like a$$wholes, everyone has one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)
I didn't say that!!!!!!!! did I????????

Pooga

opinions are like a$$wholes, everyone has one!

Put two CMTers in a room and you'll get three opinions and four committees!
And then they'll both decide to change sides.

Hey just a darn minute, I resemble that remark….

Some thoughts from a rookie….I have often wondered about bills and coins and the travels and stories they could tell if they could talk…then one day a couple weeks ago, I got this note with a "stamp" on it…checked it out and here I am…..I have entered 19 bills over the last couple weeks and the only thing I look for is to see if someone has "hit" my bill.

Sure I guess the stats mean something, I have never looked at where I rank….I just want to see where my bill has gone, or where the one I find has come from.
