Serotonin how do you go about spending your marked bills in EDM? 3 of us in the Family spent about 12 - 20 bills, i can't believe the looks we got. At west ED we spent a 20 and a 5 and the lady looked at them than showed another guy and than asked us where we got the bills… My dad, who knows not much about the site but lets me mark the bills, said "from the bank".. Anyway, it happend 4 other times. Once at Serotogas, 2 more times again at the hotel resturuant.. gee….

Looks like you have quite and education program to mount, there. I suggest getting a couple of hunderd fives and seek out as many stores as you can and make a point of showing them the stamp… I remember when I first started doing this, my stamp was very small and I always handed the clerk the bill stamp side down. After sparring with a few bank tellers, my attitude changed and now I've become almost 'in your face' about CMTing. My '3rd generation' stamp is very visible and I hand clerks the bills stamp side up, up close so they can't help but see it.

BabyDutka

so what exactly do you tell them? I mean its hard to talk to people about it sometimes because they think its illegal and won't take the bill…

Pooga

they think its illegal

Ask them 'under which law' or 'have you read that law?' . Listen to that radio clip from CBC. Just tell them that the Bank of Canada does not consider it illegal. If they still have problems, tell them to either call the Bank of Canada, or the police, and you'll wait for them!

won't take the bill

Considering it's legal tender, they don't don't have much choice! Same thing as before… "If you won't take the bill, please call the police while I call the Better Business Bureau, and we'll see what happens". Smile broadly.

Idjit

I tell them the Bank of Canada is far more concerned about merchants not accepting legal tender than they are about bills with a few marks on them. I am a bit of a salesman, so I can usually turn the situation around and try to get them to be a money tracker. "Go home, and enter this bill. You can see where it's been spent and how far its travelled." When I was asked by my employer's security people what the heck I was doing, I was able to convince them it was a good idea because if we ever got robbed, we would have the serial #s recorded and we could trace them on the site. The main thing is to remember this: you aren't doing anything wrong, the clerk has no basis to refuse the bill, and even if you just stand there and play stupid, the whining will eventually stop and they'll put the bill in the till. Actually, I've never had a clerk go to the point of refusing a bill. They're just curious, thats all.

ANGLOFROG

Idjit: Man, you got balls, try doing that where English is not the first language. Over here, its a guarantee that they'll spit in your fries!

MmmBeer

I usually tell the dumbwitted quicky mart dude that i got it from a friend, or the bank..

My brother actually had the bank refuse bills from him when we went new five hunting.. F! it made me so nad also, we waited in line for about 1/2 hour and than "sorry sir these are defaced"
NEVER go to Royal bank, im boycotting them now. I also wioated in line there also (to get new fivers) and the lady thought my US 100 was counterfit. She put it through the detector machine twice, had about 2 others look at it than she tells me (after waiting 5 mins for her) "sorry, if this is counterfit we can't track you down" (i dont have no card there)

Anyway, I think im going to get a new and improved JUMBO STAMP Something like this that will get their attention:

TRACK ME ONLINE ACROSS CANADA HELP ME WITH MT SCHOOL PROJECT WWW.CDN-MONEY.COM</F2>

Pooga

"sorry sir these are defaced"

The reply to this is, "And??"

Defacing a bill is only illegal if it renders the bill unreadable. Have them check the law right then and there. If you have time, keep the teller occupied while the lines get longer!

Idjit

This statement illustrates my sentiment about banks perfectly. Ignorance of the law is one thing, but I am certain you got this treatment because you are a young person. At that point, I would have asked for the tellers full name, so "You have it right when you report her/him." In fact, you might want to send the Royal Bank an E-mail and report this incident. Customer service comes from education, and this particular teller needs to be educated from head office…

MmmBeer

I was thinking the same thing.. just cause im a youngin they think they can walk all over me.. Next time i will be serious and turn some heads… The manager was on Vacation and the line was out the door with 3 tellers open… I would have got him if he wasnt away ;S

ANGLOFROG

Good idea MmmBeer, just make sure its in BLACK, BOLD-FACED ARIAL CAPS, and do make sure you get the spelling right.(I had put in an order from stampman.com and they came back with my order containing 4 errors, I have yet to get my paid orders) BTW would you stamp the front or the back.

Actually the other site had similar ideas like putting CURRENCY TRACKING STUDY. I still like the HIT ME idea, but that's just me.

ANGLOFROG

Bullshit! The managaer (or whoever responsible that day) is ALWAYS AWAY!

Its time to trash the place and take your business elsewhere.

Serotonin

I think I'm the only one that is on the site from Edmonton. My circle of movement is small. I live and operate within two blocks of work. Edmonton is actually a lot like Saskatoon, only bigger. Because of its isolation it turns inwards and creates its own entertainment etc.

Sarge

I am now laser printing my bills - that is, the ones that are in good enough condition to go through the printer. It gives a sharp clear and to-the-point statement.. On the front for old fives and tens. But on the twenty's and fifty's, I've created a speech balloon for the back - like in cartoons, with the bird or owl saying "See where I've been, check me out online @ www-cdn-money.com. Go ahead - give it a quack! or give a hoot!"

If the bill isn't good enough to go through, them I just stamp it the old way.

BTW, EVERY OTHER MESSAGE before this one left 'weird' spelled wrong!

STORMCHASER77

Ontario people are the sameway. I handed out bills with the other site and people said "isn't that Illegal"? I just look at them and say I just received the bill so what do I know. Plus I work the night shift driving cab, so I don't have to deal with any banks or 'PROPER' day people.
