Diamond in the Ruff

Lost that is… I was pulling weeds today and watering and felt my chain tickle me. I looked down and noticed it was broke and my wedding diamond pendant missing. We have a grass area too and after 4 hours of searching, sore knees and neck decided to resume tomorrow. May take scissors and cut the grass shorter as I look. Does anyone know of a detector or something easier? My first Friday the 13th horror story.

I am very sorry to hear of your bad luck. Sorry I can't think of any quickie way of finding something like your pendant. If all else fails, it should be more visible when the vegetation dies down in the fall.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your diamond. I believe a metal detector may work. Thats all I can say to help. Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

Depending on the metal it was encased in, one of those large magnets they use for picking up dropped roofing nails out of the grass. Hope this helps.

METAL DETECTOR WILL WORK AND TWO WAYS TO GET ONE TO USE ONE A RENTAL STORE OR TWO LOOK IN YOUR PHONE BOOK FOR LOCAL ROCK SHOP OR METAL DETECTOR SHOP AND ASK FOR A FEW NAMES OF PEOPLE WHO LOOK FOR THINGS …THEY LOVE A TREASURE HUNT.

Thank you everyone for your support and great ideas. I've spent three days closely searching and still no diamond so will be checking into the metal detector route and lastly wait until the grass dies and check when we pull the garden. There is still hope!

This may be something you do not want to hear, but is there a possibility that you could have lost it earlier and not have noticed until that point?

Joycer

No… the clasp is solid V shaped gold and could not slide off until the chain came apart. I definately had it on and and am sure the chain came apart in my back yard. It had caught on a weed so I tucked it in my bikini so it wouldn't catch any more plants but having it tucked in possibly pulled on it and I later felt the chain tickle my chest so it was then I imagine it fell off. My big mistake was not checking the clasp when I originally caught it. I just thought it didn't break so I was okay. Am still miserable about it but hopefully when the grass dries more I can dig deeper to look. Also trying to look into a detector. There was only one 1 - 800 # to try and no answer on it yet. Am still optimistic though. Thanks for idea and note of concern. I will have to be patient and keep hoping it will show up.

Joycer

Thank You Pooga…those are very amazing and touching stories - and very encouraging! I don't know how you found them! I also heard about the lady's wedding band in her flower garden. I will have to be patient but hopefully won't have to wait that long.

I can get my hands on a metal detector if you want.
You pay for the bus, return. I'll lend it to you.

I talked to someone that sells detectors from Ontario and he said I would need a gold detector and even that may hardly detect the pendant. I'll keep checking here in Regina for now and keep on my daily hands and knees search.(and magnifying dollar store glasses-lol) As the grass dries it may get easier. I'll keep you in mind though…if it does gold and I don't find another one closer it could help me a lot. Thanks for the option.

My brother lost a gold ring in the back yard a few years ago, we couldn't find it after lots of searching. Then after about a year of it's dissappearence my dog found it. =D So there's still hope

Joycer

Wow! That is a great dog! I have a small dog but doesn't dig or show interest in sniffing the back yard - I feel like the dog digging and searching…pretty soon I'll even know how to bark! lol. I am so amazed it is so hard to find. Your story is very encouraging! Thanks for another insight to finding the lost treasure.

A shot in the dark. Early morning or later in the evening when the sun is low on the horizon, your diamond may shine a glimmer of hope in the light. Look across the grass as if you were looking under a door. No kidding! This is how they find sand diamonds in Saudi Arabia.

Ok 1 more silly idea =:))
I don't know if there is enough metal in the pendent,
however you can rent (?) a magnetic broom. It's designed to pick up nails and such of shop floors, like a push broom. It's just a big magnet on wheels. I know the “House of Tools” sells them, but you could probably rent one somewhere. Just another thought. (or just return it after you find the pendent)

crazz

redmax1 gave me this idea on his magnetic broom. If there isn't enough metal, how about a shop vac. This will pick up all the grass etc. and you could see better, But you could cut open the bag and go through everything in there?? Just a thought.

J-Lynn

Hey BC, I received your metal detector, and it seems to work totally awesomeous!!!
