Bill Marking

Had an interesting incident the other day. If I have a marked 20 and am near a bank, I'll go in and get change to enter here. Normally the tellers don't even comment on the URL stamped on the bill. Sometimes they ask about it, so I say it's part of a tracking database, etc., and they are either satisfied or more interested. BUT the other day, I was in a Credit Union and the teller just about refused the bill, saying that it was defaced! I used the line from the help here, 'with intent to render unreadable' and she still wasn't happy. I mentioned that banks are always stamping money, and writing numbers on the bills, and she replies 'This isn't a bank. We don't do things like that, and I have never written on a bill!". She finally gave me the change, and I happened to notice that one of the fives had the number '19' written on it. So to get even, I acted upset to get a 'defaced' bill from a Credit Union! She didn't complain any more after that. Some people! You'd think that the bills were her personal property!!!

I'm not sure they can refuse any money, so long as it's recognizable as legal tender. How does she know it was you who defaced the money in the first place, right? Anyway, it sounds like a good way to lose customers through poor customer service.
