Plasic Money

Plastic Money, I hear we may have plasic bills like they have in Australia. That will put a damper on the bill marking.

I don't think that [plastic money] will be coming anytime soon. If you go to Paul Wallis' site (http://www.CdnPaperMoney.com) there are some articles/postings/something about that. I believe that the Bank of Canada will remain consistant with this bill series, such that they will all be the same in terms of look, feel and security. So, plastic won't be coming until at least the next series, which probably won't be for 10+ years based on past history. :) Of course, that's just my guess, for what it's worth.

"No problem. We'll all just switch to a heated embossing stamp… "

It would take a while to dry if you're doing a lot of bills, I'd just use a fine-tipped permanant marker.

"It would take a while to dry"

Naw, it's almost instantaneous. The stamp is the same as the ones notary publics use for documents, except it has a heating element in it. If you actually melt the bill, it's too hot. You only need enough heat to make the plastic 'set'.

MmmBeer

It would be more noticing than a stamp. It would be neat if they could melt, or "SET", some color into the bill. I'm not too worried though..

I think you guys are all getting too far ahead of yourselves, if that does happen, it wouldn't happen for a long time, but plastic money would be cool, more durable.
And that means its in circulation longer, and that means more hits.

My only question about these plastic money is, what if you had a waud of $20 made out of plastic and they were in your walet and you drove from say Edmonton to Toronto in the winter. Would these notes not all be stuck together?

I think they should make the new $20, $50, and $100 the same as the Five and Ten except put a hologram on them or INVENT a new feature. Oh and reintroduce the $2.00 bill!

HOGGS

but really how many people carry the 5's in there wallet most people just crumple up the money and shove it in there pocket. The government should go to all coins for awhile look at the loonie and toonie you can only destroy them under the train.

I'd just use a fine-tipped permanant marker.

That would probably work however that stuff comes off plastic (maptacked too, right Sarge) surfaces with the use of bug spray or nail polish remover… heh, just an Army tid bit for you all.

If Canada does go to plastic we should get someone to make up a heat embosser that can put the URL in the plastic in braille! There's an overlooked segment.

China markers work very well on plastic. I use them every day to write on platic cards. Very hard to get off.

At least no polymers for Canadian currency until the 'Journey' series is finished. Probably 10+ years.

MiLOWCANADA

I heard that it is still in the works that they have not decided yet (at least they wont say) about plastic Canadian money. Personally I have mixed feelings about it. One the one hand it would make Canadian money really stand out in the collecting world but then on the other hand it would make me go crazy creasing of gtting damged plastic polymer notes.

I haven't touched any 'polymer' notes. They're more expensive ?10 fold, but last much longer so they end up being more cost-effective. The Bank of Canada has come close. Perhaps the recent publicity of importing paper from Germany for our currency will make them rethink the remaining notes of the "Journey" series.
