Do you think that lots of banks take the bills out that are marked and destroy them? Lately I find, that I mainly get new bills $20 from 2004 and $5 from 2002 when I go to the bank or instant teller. Or maybe I just pay more attention lately to the bills I get …
Well lets just say they put them in a differnent pile that is for sure. What they do with them then, you would have to ask someone that works in a bank. New UNC are always nice to get as they seem to stand out better and get noticed if you stamp them and last much longer in circulation. Just my 2 cents worth.
I work at a bank and we definately don't destroy the bills that are stamped. Bills that are destroyed are bills that are extremely worn, torn, taped together vulgar writing stuff like that. It costs us money to destroy money so its not something we do just because its stamped (unless you have defaced the queen with your stamp). As for bank machines the money has to been in pretty good if not crisp shape to go through the machine. Or else the machine will jam up. We only give out 20's in ours bank machine so the 20's are the bills that we really are picky about.
I think the 5's being the most widely used bill are sometimes in rougher shape therefore they don't with stand a long period on the market
It varies I suppose. Whenever I deposit marked bills at the bank most of the tellers think the website is a neat idea.
Thank you all, that was very informative.
I don't know, meangene79, at my main bank some of the tellers are pretty upset at our stamps and writing. And I live in Regina, like you.
I dont deposit marked bills, I spends 'em.
In Weyburn the Bank of Montreal will set aside my daughter's marked bills and if they are giving her money and come across marked bills they are removed and if she asks for them they say no…. not all banks believe in tracking
if the Financial Institution removes the stamped bills, and there are REALLY nothing else wrong with the bill, then the BofC will send them back into flow.
I myself have removed some bills that were stamped, however, there were other doodles on them, or the bill was taped up or the bill was torn…
Thanks kargra, it was good to hear from someone from a bank. Our bank has one teller who hates marked bills, and the other teller saves me all the stamped ones (and sends my bills out) It seems more of a personal think, not everyone thinks tracking money is fun, and if they happen to work at a bank they feel they have the power to stop us!

NOBODY CAN STOP US NOW, WE HAVE MOVED TO THE DARK SIDE… OUR MEMBERS OUR STRONG AND DETERMINED. STAMP LOG AND SPEND.
That's what I mean, Some bank tellers THINK they have the power by telling us these bills are going to be destroyed, yet we know that the BofC will put them right back out there! When I take money out of the bank and have this teller, I stamp the bills with the banks little smiley face before I leave. This draws more attention to my stamp,(get more hits on these bills) and it drives the teller crazy!! And that's the only time I'm every naughty!!
lol cute crazz… CIBC is always good for handing me bills with the site on em instead of taking em out as well… but most of the bills are very worn… B of M that Pheonix uses takes em out but you get very crisp new consecutive bills :)
"I stamp the bills with the banks little smiley face before I leave"
I laughed out loud when I read this! I would love to visit your bank with a couple of other trackers and we could have a little gathering right there in the bank while we all stamped our bills. It would drive this teller nutz!
lol….I thinks its funny….because i like making people that do stupid things like that mad. It makes it all that much more fun. I never thought of using tge little stamps they have in the bank…but i think i will now. oh and crazz…as i recall you also use the banks little heart stamp…lol :P
Sorry…must have clicked post 2x by accident
Where do they keep these stamps??? I've never seen them.
Im not sure if all banks have them, but our bank has them sitting right on the ledge in plain view. At least i think so anyways…
Do anyone know what the intent of their use is or why they are accessible to bank users? I've never seen them.
TO STAMP KIDS HANDS WITH.
ours gives the kids here suckers but when I lived in wetaskiwin alberta all the banks stamped the kid's hands with stamps :)
Our bank also uses them for the kids. They even have little footprints that I have been known to use occasionally!
Nice… I don't now if Regina has them…I have honestly never seen one. Very thoughtful too especially for the little ones. Mom, can I come to the bank with you?? We used to get suckers from the conductor of the train in Grayson. He always had suckers for about 6 to 10 of us. Whoever could run when they heard the whisle. One of my fondest "never forget" childhood memories.
