Well today kinda sucked going to the Bank of Montreal… I took my Daughter there to cash her cheque and to change a few bills over… well the teller noticed the stamps on the money… she proceeded to ask me if we stamped them… I said yes… then she proceeded to raise her voice and tell me that it was just going to be destroyed… that they have been tryin to figure out whose stamp it was… the bank had about 15 people in it when this happened and she made sure they all heard her… when I told her it was ok and the bills would be just returned into circulation she called me a liar and told not to do it anymore…. I said sorry, go to the site and read the banks opinion on it if she didn't believe me… she just snubbed her nose, finished the transaction and walked away…. so nice eh… guess time to change banks again :(
I'd have reported her to the manager after telling the B** it's legal and even check with the RBC. Then I would have told her my own personal thoughts in the same boistrous manner she wailed upon you. Oh yeah, I refuse to deal with B of M anymore because they are not friendly at all!
[shrug]… i would continue dealing with the bank, entering the money but instead of stamping it, i would write with a sharpie in discreet but ledgible printing, "Bank of Montreal teller (her name here) is an ignorant cow". but then, i'm a ne'er-do-well who has always believed that you don't get mad, you get even. if questioned, you simply react with wide-eyed innocence. you may also want exclaim "but the bill isn't STAMPED!"
shoulda mooned her cuz. it is a family tradition isnt it?
The last time I had something like this happen to me, I asked for the supervisor and offered to give the branch a seminar on money tracking. "no use insulting your customers out of ignorance", said I. "I'll donate 30 minutes of my time so you don't make fools of yourselves in front of your customers, and I'll tell you what you need to do to properly serve other money trackers in the future."
Funny, they didn't take me up on my offer, but have never objected to my marked bills since. I guess they figured out that a customer is a customer.
Seriously though- she called you a liar? Her supervisor or branch manager definitely needs to know this. If you don't get satisfaction, ask for the number of the district manager.
You know what i would have done?? I would have laughed and laughed and laughed and called her funny…because it would have made her look all like that much more of an a**! And then i would continue bringing my stamped bills to her and smiling politely every single time. What can she do….turn you away??? I think not. Dont feel upset…feel proud that you defended yourself and us trackers!!!
You should ask to speak to the bank manager and report her conduct, inform the manager that due to this behaviour you will be moving your banking business elsewhere.
Once I paid my Master card bill at the Bank of Montreal and the teller notice the stamps on the back of the 15 bills and did not say a word + I did get hit on some of those, so she did not destroy them. But I have to tell you I was very uncomfortable with that situation, that's why I just stamp the back.
I would have pulled out my stamp asked her to lean forward a bit and stamped her forehead then you could" track" her all the way to her boss's office
and have a little face to face chat as to her conduct to you as a customer.
BIGBIGBIG - stamps on the back of the 15 bills and did not say a word + I did get hit on some of those
How could that be, since you haven't entered any bills???
lmao good one rudy… and I thought you were sweet and innocent
hehe shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh cuz… don't want people knowing that it was our butts showing :)
Sorry to here that your a Willier. Hope you get better soon.
Get better soon??
People tend to stay with the site they initally join.
Out of the 3 canadian money tracking sites, all 3 have their bright points.
I am a member at all 3 but only stamp this web site on it.
In the past I have entered money on all 3.
And I would like to say "Have fun tracking, no matter what web page you like, & use."
We are all in this for the same reason.
In short. Sramic I'ld like to say in the future would you be kinder to our brothers at WW.
Shewolf if they have a TD bank where you are try them. I took 1000 in marked bills there once and 900 of it was in 20's, the teller didn't say a word about the stamping on the bills.
I'm sorry this had to happen shewolf. Like I said, some of these bank tellers think they are gods gift to "money" maybe going to the managers office with a big black marker and putting a big mustache on that little princess nose and saying "See, now that's defacing and us money trackers don't do that" (make sure it's not washable) Let that teller face her customers all day!!! Ohhhh I am get nasty!!! (I took out 5 - 20's today and stamped them with the banks big red heart first!!)
I've had one teller somewhat angry over them, but at the time I could tell she was having a bad day. Most of the tellers where I do my banking think it's a really cool site. Next time just tell them what the site is about and what we do is within the limits of the law.
Sorry shewolf.
just to antagonize a single teller who told me they "mute" the stamped bills & return them to BoC I intentionally passed a couple times to go back to her.
She did something simular to what yours did, but much kinder.
Then I asked her if she sent many more marked bills to BoC.
In the previous time I asked her to mark her name on the envelope of those bills she sent back to BoC, then BoC could ask why she sent so many stamped bills back.
She actually did do that.. & got in trouble as I told her she would.. LOL
If they don't wanna listen to reason.. Show them they are wrong.
If I have to deposit money, it's always in unmarked bills and they're usually in pretty bad shape. I have paid the odd bill (like a line of credit) there in marked cash, but I always limit the # to less than 3, so as not to raise any suspiscion. Most of my bill paying is done over the phone and my visits are usually to replenish my stock of marked bills to hand out at work driving taxi.
What happens to my marked bills after I spend them or distribute them doesn't concern me other than the hopes of getting a hit and finding where it went. All Banks at some point must be inundated with our money but they have no one to take out their frustrations on except for situations as the one described. None of the business that I frequent have ever confronted me or told me to stop paying with marked bills & most are unaware where they came from. I'm sorry to hear you went through this agrivation Shewolf and hope your future dealings are on a much more positive note!
Thanks Lord Comedy for your reply regarding other trackers. I enjoy both sites and since I found Willy first, most of my time and $$ is spent there.
I was only asked by curious tellers who had never seen the stamp before - and I was happy to explain. But on the down side…I was asked by the manager of Brado's Pizza to not cycle or spend my marked money there. They had some complaints about the VLT's refusing the bills. Funny though…I seldom have that trouble. Change machines are good places to drop a marked bill…and the Salvation Army balls in the mall…and slip a fiver in a Christmas card…
Sramic: Hope you get better soon.
Good one! Wish I would have thought of that!
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY YOUR HAVING PROBLEMS I SPEND A FAIR AMOUNT OF FIVES (OKAY OKAY I SPENT HUNDREDS OF FIVES) AT ONE TIME AND NEVER DO I GET ANY COMPLAINTS. YESTERDAY ALONE
100 FIVES AT COSTCO GOT COMMENT FROM CASHIER I GUESS I AM GOOD FOR FIVES FOR AWHILE, WALMART 50 FIVES SPENT NO COMMENT AT ALL, PENNINGTONS 42 FIVES AT ONE TIME AND WAS THANKED FOR ALL THE SMALL BILLS AS THEY ALWAYS NEED THEM, MARKS WORK WAREHOUSE 30 FIVES WITH NO COMMENT AT ALL. SAFEWAY 25 FIVES WITH NO COMMENT AT ALL. PEAVY MART 62 FIVES WITH NO COMMENT AT ALL. NOW AS YOU CAN TELL I WAS CHRISTMAS SHOPPING YESTERDAY BUT I SPENT 309 FIVES YESTERDAY IN LARGE AMOUNTS PLUS ABOUT ANOTHER 50 IN SMALL GROUPS WITHOUT AS MUCH AS A RAISED EYEBROW. IT MAKES ME WONDER HOW SOME PEOPLE SPEND THEIR MONEY? I DO NOT FEEL OR LOOK GUILTY HANDING A CASHIER ALL THOSE FIVES AND I SELDOM GET ANY BAD REACTION. I HAVE NOTICES ONE THING THOUGH AND THAT IS MOST OF THE CASHIERS JUST TAKE MY COUNT AS CORRECT AND SHOVE THE BILLS INTO THE TILL AND HAND ME MY CHANGE. I GUESS I HAVE A TRUSTING FACE. :-).
The only place I ever got grief from other than where I pay my rent is the Dollar Store in Confederation Park in Sakatoon, the guy was quite rude about marked bills, and proceeded to tell me a banker friend of his told him it was illegal. I said its not if you don't believe me check the site and if it was illegal then why do banks stamp money. He had no response to that. Haven't had a problem there since.
I said sorry, go to the site and read the banks opinion on it if she didn't believe me… she just snubbed her nose, finished the transaction and walked away…. so nice eh… guess time to change banks again :(
Sorry to hear you got such bad service… I have in the past faced something simliar which is why I contacted the BOC and got the responce that DR has posted here… I simply carry a printed out copy of the email in my wallet complete with the email address of the BOC offical. When I get heat from a teller I simply hand them the email, so far it has always worked to shut them up.
