High 999**
Low 000**
low numbered notes are listed in the Charlton Guide (16th ed - 2004) as having a number less than 1000. these are collectable and their book price increases as they get to XXX0000001. for example the $5 in the bird series S/N 100 to 999 is listed as being worth $30. from S/N 10 to 99, it is worth $35. S/N 2 to 9 is worth $90 and XXX0000001 will fetch $600. the charlton guide has no similar listing for high numbered notes, but some collectors would want them. what passes for a high or low number may be different on this site. i hope that this information helps.
Thank you rudyk for enhancing my understanding of highs and lows as well…
Thank you for the infomative post i will jot this down for reference
I also believe that certain serial number patterns give their bill a higher value…radar notes being the most obvious, but also numbers such as XXX1000000… (Are they referred to as high/low? I guess not…

these are referred to as "million numbered notes" and indeed are collectable as well. for the canadian journey series, these are listed starting at $200 for the $5 and go up from there. for the bird series, they start at $325. these are for Unc. but it is difficult to find them in better than AU because they are found at the bottom of a stack of uncirculated.
other patterns recognized are ladder notes. also very collectable
Why I had asked is that I have a $20 note XXX9999271, yes I think I will hang onto it
I just got a used, folded, wrinkled 1986 5.00 xxx0003783, would this be considered a low? Surely not very collectable in good - fine condition.
