okay BANKCOLLECTOR I am a proud Canadian because i have 2 flags on either side of my 5th wheel trailer and one Canadian flag on my scooter…I am a PROUD CANADIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!

BANKCOLLECTOR

maggiemae dear that gets you one bonus point how did you answer the three questions. but i do believe you are a truly proud canadian.

rudyk

thanks pooga. it kinda gets my goat to see people try to "out-patriot" the americans. i figure that part of what makes us canadian is our understated pride. the rest smacks of jingoism. i celebrate our land, history and heritage. emulating americans is not part of it.

BANKCOLLECTOR

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions Americans factor no where in this thread. only that they are Proud Americans and we are Pround Canadians.

Ginnsu

Uh oh. Personally I fail to see where either Pooga or Rudyk bashed Americans. Pooga simply stated proper protocal, and Rudyk merely demonstrated how some peoples patriotism smacks of a competition in pride with americans, sometimes even the copying of american pride.

My own views are that patriotism is just pride in the acheivements of what others have done before us, or what a group of people have accomplished as a whole. I am happy to be living in Canada, as opposed to somewhere else, because of the values held by most Canadians, and the freedoms we all share. I feel it important to teach our following generations who made these values and freedoms possible, and how, so that the values and freedoms are not lost. And I feel we still have a ways to go before certain people in our nation are truely free. However I feel that national pride can all to often be just being proud of a nations strengths with out even recognizing what those strengths are. And also can also breed distaste, misunderstanding, or even fear and hatred for those in nations with different values.

If being proud to be Canadian, is your thing, go for it. But I would personally like to suggest understanding for what the symbols of your pride mean, so they aren't just symbols. And don't take the freedoms and values you share with people for granted, lest they be taken away from you.

wow, ginnsu… you joined a year later but are lightyears ahead in reading with comprehension! :) also, you might want to get your knee-jerk reaction checked… it's way behind some other's! i agree with you whole-heartedly. pride and patriotism is far more than worshiping icons. that. to me, is shallow and easily paid. i believe that patriotism has its soul in sacrifice… serving the country's greater good.

Ginnsu

Heh, yeah, sorry about the knee-jerk reaction. Sometimes I jump at the chance to speak my opinion, while at most times I'm normally soft spoken. I'm truely sorry BankCollector, I didn't mean to jump and land feet first on your head. :-S

Thanks for the compliments, constructive critizism's, and agreements rudyk. You are lightyears ahead of me in the use of tact. :-)

Pooga

Seeing as how BC has edited his statements, the resulting replies are no longer relevant.

However, if I wanted to act like an American, I would be an American. Try travelling just about anywhere in the world. Americans are tolerated for the most part. Canadians are welcomed with open arms. (This is a generalisation of course, as there are exceptions.)

Why do you think Americans are disguising themselves as Canadians? See this story!

And here's what Americans are buy at T-shirtking.com!

An example: An acquaintance is a retired Canadian Forces member. On a European vacation about 15 years ago, he was passing through the Netherlands. He meant to spend 2 days there. He ended up staying a week, and never had to buy a meal, a drink, or lodging after the locals found out who he was!

And try this page for a laugh! And this site is the British take on it.

Bottom line… if you want to be recognised as a Canadian, say "eh!" a lot!

BANKCOLLECTOR

hahahahahahahahaha rudyk with tact you crack me up ginnsu.

With 8 points I am a high up luke warm Canadian :) When I looked at the answers, I knew right away what the answer for a Proud Canadian would be. I answered honestly though.

Thanks for the fun quiz, BC.

Kordi

I didn't know that some Americans want to dress up as Canadians. That was very informative, Pooga. So we can be real proud to be Canadians, eh?
