It is time to start planning for the next Saskatoon Gathering, to held on Saturday, January 29th. I am open to suggestions for a meeting location. A central location would be preferred but is not essential.

To date the only suggestion I have is at Alberto's. If there are any other suggestions please let me know by the middle of next week.

Pooga

The Cave has some nice cubby-holes. And give Athena in Sutherland a call as well.

The big selling point… LIVER! These two places are the best in the city for liver, so Idjit and I would be there for sure!

No chancey Mr. Gouche AND NO I am not a weirdo, Just a little different my son, my son, my most inquistive son….

Dr.JD Fever

Try soaking it in JD over night , then bring out the barbie and cook away, you will think you have died and gone to "Liver" Heaven.
As for the Cave sounds good I will go with the flo or what ever is decided upon.

While I won't be attending, I am also a liver lover, though not part of the Regina Liver Lovers Club. As to the Cave, when I was there in the 80's, it had some great baklava!

Have you ever tried it…or is this just something you are saying because everyone else has told you liver is yukky.
It is something that you have to "aquire a taste for" and it looks like there's lots of us in Saskatoon that have "aquired" that taste.
Liver and fried onions has got to be the best!
Think I'll cook some up for supper tonight!

And I will be working that weekend, so will not be able to attend the Liverfest… :-[

Pooga

I have no luck cooking it properly.

That's why I'm always on the look out for a place that knows how. Athena's is a bit better, and the onions are piled so high, you can't see the liver!

Tough on the old cholesterol, but what the heck, you only live once!

Idjit

And I'm sorry I'll miss this gathering also- Saturdays don't work for me. I kinda thought the last gathering was a Saturday- no?

gouche92

You are correct that it was held on a Saturday (November 27th to be exact). I just checked the minutes from the last gathering and it indicated that the next meeting was to be held on January 29th.

I personally don't mind which say it is on so I will put the question to a vote…..

Well Pooga if your ever traveling west stop in Banff and go to the Rose & Crown Pub. The liver and onions is fantastic. It's served with bacon, mashed potatoes, gravy and vegetables. If you go bring an appetite as there are two large pieces of liver and it is a challenge to finish the dish. I do believe the price is $12.00. Nice thing is you can wash it down with a pint of Guinness . A little hard on the system but as you said you only live once so liv-er up. They also have excellent steak and kidney pie, did I mention the fish n chips. Oh so yummy…

Sadly I will miss the Liverfest due to a prior commitment – how sad

Joycer

Haven't made liver for a while but I used to soak it in milk and then coat the liver in shake'n bake and fry it… pretty tasty! An egg wash and then coating with bread crumbs works too but it is not as spicy. Onions always go good with it too. When I was small if my mom told me it was liver I'd eat it - that was the only thing I liked.

Joycer, as a kid I also liked liver and onions. My mom would also grind up any leftover cooked liver and put it with the hamburger, vegetables, and breadcrumbs in a meatloaf.
I either fry liver with onions, or, when I'm feeling fancy, with onions, sliced apples and a sprinkle of brown sugar.
