The text size problem is now fixed; if you select a size in your preferences or you select it from the Text Size links at the top of the page, your selection will remain for the duration of your session. The links at the top override your preference setting.
If it's still not working for you, all that should be required is to clear your browser's cache (IE calls it temporary internet files) and restart your browser. If you don't know how to do the cache clearing, do a Google search.
