Don't reply to old messages; it's silly at the best of times since most people will have long since forgotten their thoughts on the subject at hand.
In any case, I've modified the forum to prevent replies to anything older than 7 days. But realistically, you shouldn't be replying to a message that is more than a few days old.

lol sorry i cant resist..
are you saying that most people here are old and being affected with Alzheimer's?
lol
Not a bad idea, but can I make a suggestion?
The 7 day rule doesn't apply if the message is on page 1 or 2 of the forum.
If you look at the 'East' forum, you see that Sarge had a problem replying in a slow forum. In addition, do you think that this might impose a hardship on those who take a 2 week vacation, or are away for a while?
:-o I believe I've been scolded.
oh yeah, by the way, sorry. :-/
I agree dr. BUT when I go on holidays for a week or more, I like to come back and check out ALL the postings in ALL the forums to maybe put my "two cents" worth in. Perhaps a longer period of time before preventing replies?…..AND what about searching the forums for an old topic that a user may want to look up as a reference or whatever?…………..O.K. That's my two cents worth on this subject.
Thank you dr!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Terry
I agree…Thank you very much dr.
I don't think it would be hard at all as you can still read all the old messages and if you want to reply you can start a new thread and refer to that old message or copy a revelent section into your new post. Am I on the right track here dr?
a very wise addition dr. i am very happy with your idea another smart move. thanks

geez, man… if dr ever stops short you're gonna have to call a proctologist to extract ya… :)
so that means I can't make my longest thread in the history of CMT (aka "Hooked Another Gas Jockey") even longer?? =P
Sorry about that DR. It was done with humour as the intent.
I agree ass well dr nothing like searching for a message someone wrote 7 or 8 pages back in the forum… but I think 7 days is good and if we need to reply we can make a new note in the forum :)

As Pooga so clearly indicated, finding messages that are many pages deep in the forum are not that hard to find, simply click on the Date at the top the forum page and it will list the messages in date order, to reverse the order click on Date again. Really easy to do……
I give credit where credit is due and try to correct others poor behaviour when I can. In your case I have given up as can not do terminal cases… your too far gone.

The same applies to author so now RUDYK just click on author twice and all my comments will be togather for you to read and comment on.
I think it is time to lay this one to rest!!!
It is, in my humble opinion, an over reaction to a user's questioning what will happen in a given scenario. Unfortunately it wasn't taken for what it was, given that finding new messages that are buried in a forum are so easy to find…..
It's not that old messages aren't easy to find; I realize that one can sort by date (note: I programmed the forum code). The problem is that when you sort by date, you lose the natural thread ordering. That is, a message about one subject can be intermixed within many other message subjects.
No apologies are required; it's been on my list to do fo a long time. That was simply the straw that broke the tired programmers back. :)
