I got this from my sister-in-law and thought I would share with everyone!
Clothes Dryer-Good Info To Know!
I had a wonderful morning; the heating unit went out of my dryer! Why
does everything seem to fall apart this time of year?!?
The guy that fixes things went in to the dryer and pulled out the lint
filter. It was clean. We always clean the lint from the filter after
every load of clothes. He told us that he wanted to show us something.
He took the filter over to the sink and ran hot water over it.
Now, this thing is like a mesh-I'm sure you know what your dryer's
lint filter looks like-WELL…the hot water just laid on top of the mesh!!!
It didn't go through it at all!!!
He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh and that's
what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. He
said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (and
to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out and wash it
with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every
six months. He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as
long!
How about that???!!!! Learn something new everyday!
How about..
Not using those dryer sheets.
If you stick a damp.. not wet. cloth in for the final 5 minutes of the drying cycle it takes all the.. static eletricity out of your cloths.
then you don't have that film on your clothes either..
this will save your dryer & you money.. just think of how much those bounce sheets cost a year.
Thanks, thats good to know. My heater just went on my dryer and I just got a new one. I will make sure I do that. I always clean my filter and vacuum out the lint as far down as I can reach, I will add this to my cleaning! Thanks again! (MY daughter is hooked on the smell of bounce sheet and actually buys them herself! so I'll never be able to stop using them)
Like LC said, dryer sheets put a film on your clothes… I will elaborate. This film causes towels not to absorb water well, your clothes will not absorb sweat as well and your windows and mirrows will always have steaks on them (unless you use paper towels). I haven't used dryer sheets or softener for years. If you are on the ball and catch the clothes as soon as they are close to dry they will be great! For a nice smell I add a little liquid Cheer to my usual detergent. My neighbor also gave me a hint that I use often and that is to keep a spray bottle of water where you fold clothes… if they are wrinkled or if embroidered decals curl or towel edges curl just lightly spray them. I was shopping at the Bay and the sales lady said even if you use a dryer sheet a few loads ago it will affect the performance of laundry. A man had returned some very expensive towels and said that they wouldn't "dry" him and she knew he had used softener. He said no, not for the towels. She told him that it stays in the dryer for a long time so it is best not to use it at all. She also said that towels should never be washed or dried with "hot" settings. She taught me a lot that day!
wow great info wally. Thank you I also am very careful cleaning my lint filter after every wash but had no idea about the bounce i use….. 2 at a time in every dryer use. Yes you learn something new every day and thanks for sharing that valuable info. Oh, by the way wally, I hope all is well with you and have a great day my friend.
