The belief in the possibility of a short decisive war appears to be one of the most ancient and dangerous of human illusions.
- Robert Lynd, writer (1879-1949)
The belief in the possibility of a short decisive war appears to be one of the most ancient and dangerous of human illusions.
Short, decisive wars in recent history:
The 1967 Arab-Israeli war (6 days)
The 1973 Yom Kippur war (~12 days)
The 1991 Gulf War (about 80 hours)
Yeah, them mideasterners know how to do war right…
The 1967 Arab-Israeli war (6 days) The 1973 Yom Kippur war (~12 days)
Nothing decisive about them. Just brief flare-ups of something larger. All part of one 'war'. 1948 - present.
The 1991 Gulf War (about 80 hours)
Preceded by how many days of 'air war'? Followed by how many years 'sanctions', 'no fly zones', etc. Arguably continued to this present day when Bush Sr. stopped action too soon! (I know, I know, going to Baghdad at that time wasn't in the UN mandate, but since when did that ever mean anything?)
the UN mandate, but since when did that ever mean anything?
Since when does the UN mean anything? Its only purpose in recent years has been to protect corrupt governments and deny - not prevent or stop - genocide.
True religion is the life we lead, not the creed we profess.
