Hummingbird

This is truly amazing. Be sure to click on NEXT PAGE at the bottom of each page; there are 5 pages in all. A lady found a hummingbird nest and got pictures all the way from the egg to leaving the nest. Took 24 days from birth to flight.

wow nature at its finest. thx pooga for sharing that.

The nifty white material lining the nest is spider web. You will notice as time goes on, the chicks actually stretch the nest out as they grow- spider web is the only material that will allow this.

Thanks Pooga, that was really interesting, and Idjit, glad I read yours before looking, interesting on the web in the nest. I liked the last picture with the penny, would be luck to stumble across one of these tiny nest!

I found a hummingbird nest in my raspberry bushes last nite. a mix of raspberry and thistle actually. 2 kinds of thistle. pointy bitching sharp ones with yellow flowers and pointy bitching sharp ones (that make me itch) with purple flowers. very tiny and I almost missed it. the nest. it was empty as was another nest (not hummingbird)that was in there. lots of long white dog hair in both. I throw the dog hair outside from the brushes for the birds to use.
