well, i, like you, picked it up on saturday, but it was later than your likely 12:01am purchase. :) i got to read the first chapter (and the last, but we won't go there…) but my progeny has absconded with it and i haven't seen it since…
anyone ELSE want to admit the extent of their nerd-dom???? :)
I don't know.
The Pope won't read them since they're a bad influence.
What's good enough for the Pope is good enough for me.
would that be the new pope or the old pope?
antics queried:

no no no… that would be, "new pope or pope classic " :)

Cute….
No, that would be Benny, as here on CNN or here on USA Today or here on Reuters
My hubby did the 12:01 pickup and my 19-yr-old daughter finished it in less than 2 days. She wasn't too impressed with it…the ending was just like she thought it would be. I'm not sure how far my hubby has read yet (it's his book), but I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books…yet.
Haven't touched them. The only reading I've done lately were all of Dan Brown's novels last summer.
I never read them either. saw a few glimpses of the movies as the kids were watching them but they did not appeal to me at all. I prefer non fiction or the horror type that is not too silly.
I hate to admit it, but I haven't read any of the books yet. I don't have any way of gaining access to them and don't have the money to buy them. :-(
I did, however, finally see the third movie in the Harry Potter series on T.V. a few days ago. :-)
I like the movies. Even though it is 'supposed' to be a childrens' series, I think they are pretty cool.

I've never seen a series of books so mislabelled as "children's" literature. It defies categorization. It's high calibre writing that is not for a specific age group. All I can say is that you really are missing out on a fantastic story if you assume it's for kids, or "it's fantasy, I won't like it".
Just so you know, I read. A lot. Of many different genres. And I've never had a reaction like I did to this book. I was shouting "SHUT UP!!!" in surprise and disbelief at certain things. I was laughing out loud and going "YES, GO HARRY!!" at other things. I had to stay up to finish it, I couldn't stay in bed, and I had to sit up and grip the book in front of my nearsighted face because it was so good. Not kidding! It would have been interesting to watch me while I was reading this book…
And, Harry Potter rant over.
I read the first 3 a few years back, my daughters nurses bought them for her while she was in the hospital. She didn't like them so I read them (she didn't even want me to read them to her) I really enjoyed them, haven't had a chance to read anymore, and haven't seen the movies yet,(but they can't make movies like the book anyways!!) Anybody ever read "Kiss the girls?" Nothing like the movie, I also read this (in one night) at the hospital and I was scared, the movie, nothing even remotely like the book!! (and nothing like Harry Potter)If you watched the movie, read the book it is way better(lots of gross stuff for those with weak stomachs) makes you wonder about some people.
I just finnished it and am realizing how much Ive frogoten from the other books.
It was a good read but not the best of her work.
Hi,
I just want all to know that whether Harry Potter is classified 'children's' or not, I still enjoyed the movies. I'm keeping me eyes peeled on eBay to see if I can get all 3, that way I can watch all movies 1 following the other.
As for the books, I might just have to wait until I hear that 1 of me friends has them and would be willing to temporarily part with them, or I see them at a sale or something (neither of which am I expecting to happen any time soon lol).
Enjoy reading/seeing all.

"…or I see them at a sale or something…"
I've already seen them at garage sales. No need to wait.

some people these days are using this innovative and highly controversial thing called a library. i've heard that they'll lend you books and other things free of charge for periods approaching what you'd need to digest it. it almost sounds too good to be true but smacks of communism or something… :)
Thank you. I was going to mentiong that too, as so many people seemed unable to afford the books.
Other things - movies (were vhs, but I assume they have expanded to dvd's now as well) cd's (yes, you can go borrow a whole stack of cd's, and not just stompin tom, new ones too), records. Also, you can sit down and read a magazine or newspaper.
I'm glad you've already seen them at a sale. Now I know that it is possible.
All I have to do is find a sale that has them and have the spare money at the same time. Oh yeah, I need a way to get to the sale. lol
Thanks for letting me know, Idjit. :-)

Rudyk,
The library would be a great concept, thanks for reminding me of it.
I do have to be honest–I apparently owe them money from a few years ago and just haven't had the spare money to pay them.

One summer I kept borrowing magazines from the library and kept forgetting to return them on time…I could have bought several with all the fines I racked up!! LOL
