I hate moving too. The last two times I moved I vowed that I would never do it again. Glad you're settled in and back in the saddle…
Better question, who actually likes moving??? I can say moving all you stuff on the Greyhound is the worst way I know to move.
Also I wonder if anyone on here can beat my record: for the past six years I've not lived in the same place for more than eight months. Also this year I've moved three times and will have to move a forth time at the end of August.
But this sounds like I am complaining, which I'm not, because in the end it is fun to look back at stuff like this.
Moving helps keep your junk down to a minimum.
First of all, T.rev, its fourth, not forth. And also, I'm also moving in August and I love it. I hate Vancouver Island so many different ways I'm not going to list them.
I would love to move. I been looking now and then for a new place. I'm sick of this dump I live in. Boardwalk bought out the previous owners, so whenever someone moved out, they renovated the apartments… new carpet, new lino, new paint, new appliances in some cases… and here I am, stuck with the old crap. Yellow walls, marked up linoleum that never looks clean, brown yucky carpet, lino in the bathroom that my grandparents had in their house for as long as I could remember…
Problem is, we have a cat, and it isn't easy finding a place that will allow pets. And it's got to be close to work, since I have to walk (before bus runs) in the morning.
Big fat sigh. Sometimes I swear I'm going to pack everything in boxes, and stack them along a wall, so I feel like I'm making progress. Ha.
Not only does it keep your 'junk' to a minimum, but like the saying goes, "A change is as good as a rest!"
I've been in the same place for 10 years now, I want to move! I've moved 19 times, you sort of get good at it after a while. (and 10 schools in 14 years!) Maybe that's why my brother and I are good at meeting new people, but we always have each other to rely on.
Augh! Moving. love it, hate it, love it, hate it.
You gotta be organized, which I usually am not.
You gotta make plans…find a place, how to tell your landlord, rent a van, find help, and the dreaded task of PACKING!! This part I hate. I hate moving but throughout my life I've always been on the move. I've been here 5 years, but didn't think I'd been here that long. Oh well. If it were up to me I may have left after 5 months. Oh well, you try and work things out. Sometimes they don't work out so well, but hey at least you tried. Moving doesn't take long after all, but the dreaded anticipation is the worst. I have collected lots of Rubbermaids in the meantime, I have 30 or so stacked up in the other room. I may need more. This time I'll get the pros to pack the van, no more two idiots with their fathers truck….speaking of which when I arrived here in Montreal, we got 2 guys to unload a one-ton van, it took them 6 hours, they took numerous smoke breaks and broke their dolly in the meantime. It didn't help that there were a few too many book-filled trunks, but still! At the end of it all, they wanted pizza, and $200 for their work. GET OUT!
Despite the cost, I do look forward to moving next time. You can never be too prepared.
Funny too, no matter what I've just escaped from, I'm always homesick for what I left behind. Sick eh? I don't think that will happen this time. But I will miss the cheap rent. Oh well. That's my story.
T.rev you were wondering who could beat your record? Well when I was a kid I grew up in the system and only lived in grouphomes for no more than 2 months at a time, and most of them were about a month and a half. So I've lived in over 80 places in 29 years. did that beat your record?:)
Places and moves:
In a two year period between Sept 1988 and Dec 1990, I lived in 8 different places in 5 provinces.
I haven't read the rest of this strand, so I don't know yet if anyone's beat that!
yeah someone beat that, but not me.
When I was a kid I went to 3 different schools in grade 5, it really sucked, having to make friends again, always being the new guy, but I guess I did O.K.
3 different schools in Grade five…but was that over three years? :)
