now if a tracker was to received a counterfeit bill and not know it was counterfeit and entered it and stamped it and spent it …then down the road through its travels the bill was found to be counterfeit what would happen??? i know who ever had the bill at the time would lose it but could they or would they go after the person who marked it for passing counterfeit money. with the stamp on it and the serial number tied to a specific person on this site(or any other tracking site) that the police would know that person had the bill at one time would a charge be filed. now this is not to say that the tracker made the bill but that it only travel through the tracers hands. just a point to ponder???? any comments ? or how about some input from any legal beagles out there.
Nothing scientific here, but I believe it is against the law to Knowingly pass counterfit money.
Once you mark & enter it here at the web site, if the web site doesn't know about the serial number being counterfit yet. then even the web page doesn't tell you. with counter fit money being so perfect now most people can't tell.
I don' think they could hold you liable for passing the bill.
With you tracking the bill, putting in a comment where you received the bill. It would help the police track where the bills are being spent a little better.
Just my thoughts.
Besides criminals aren't so stupid that they would counter fit money then mark it with a money tracking web page, which makes people look at the money even more.
so THATS where you get all your money BC. LOL just kidding in case you take it personally
counter fit
Trying to install a new sink? LOL!!!
I suspect that if you try and add a known counterfeit (with a good prefix) that the system will reject it. Probably saying something like
ERROR: You have entered a bill with a serial number of QNQ7190917 that is known to be counterfeit. If you feel this is in error, please contact the site administrator.
Otherwise (with a bad prefix)you would get ERROR: You have entered an unknown serial number prefix. If you feel this to be an error, please contact the site administrator.
usually counterfitter's use real serial numbers.
they will copy a bill exactly.. the serial number & all
these bills usually get found out pretty quick & the serial number goes to all banks & casinos.. etc..
DR gets them from.. god knows where, but usually he enters them as counter fit.. part of counterfit detection.
when an individual enters the serial number it sends you a message saying the bill is counterfit..
pooga… anyone know of any examples?
I have worked in the Banking industry for many years…..and never once have i seen a list of counterfeit bill serial numbers……
I have. They are used by casinos and other business that deal with a lot of cash. Known counterfeit numbers are added as they are encountered. It's just one more tool to prevent losses in business. Banks, on the other hand, deal with such large volumes of bills that checking a list would not be practical. Many times when businesses encounter counterfeit bills, they just stick them in the bank deposit to see what happens- 9 times out of 10 the bank accepts them. This might not be morally acceptable, but many businesses feel that they are being ripped off by excessive 'service' fees and this is one way to compensate for the high cost of banking.
I've also met people who feel this way about insurance companies- they have no problem 'padding' their claim because they feel they are being 'nickle and dimed' every time they have a claim. I'm not saying it's right- I'm just saying it happens…
I agree with you Idjit…These things do happen and the worst of it is we all pay for these things, like it or not….
I also agree with what you say. We come across counterfiet money almost weekly, we've just never seen or used a list listing serial numbers of known bills….we do occasionally get a warning about certain prefixs to watch for….but i've never heard of a list….
I wish there was a list - the only warning we ever get is by watching the local news bout which $50 or $100 bill serial # has been used in the city recently - by then it is too late and my collection on the wall grows even bigger.
I have said in the past.. Bank of Canada should do more to keep people from counterfitting the money. Austrailian money.. ( i think. ) hasn't been counterfitted.. but is it more plastic i hear.. in resulting from the average joe getting caught with the counter fit money .. he shouldn't loose that money.. Bank of Canada should re imburse him.
after all it is the Bank of Canada's money being counterfitted.
