You've never heard of it?
I am amazed. Saskatchewan has some of the coolest place names, and a lot of the old ones are being put back on the road maps for their historical value.
Climax is about 400 km southwest of Love.
Then there's the ABC highway. Towns were mostly named in alphabetical order because it was open prairie when the railroad was going thru. (Selected) towns were, starting at the Manitoba border: Yarbo, Zeneta, Atwater, Bangor, …, Punnichy, Quinton, Raymore, …, Young, Zelma, Allan, Bradwell… and so on.
Favourite pastime: reading atlases!
I like the sign by Lake Diefenbaker:
<- Eyebrow
-> Elbow
Yes, in Saskatchewan, Love, Climax, and Semens are TOWNS!
Alberta has Czar and some other weird names, too. But none as good as Saskatchewan's.
What does that say about the innate Saskatchewan temperment and imagination? Maybe it is one of Canada's best kept secrets.
I can't believe you heard of ZENITA..it is soooo small. I lived there for 2 years when I was young. It has a store, elevator and 2 houses.
I used to live in a place called monchy, a border pass that my dad worked at for customes. It had a house and an office on the canadian side and the same on the american side and that was all you could see.
Can't beat the small 'town' where I lived (and Sarge was born).
Petlura, Manitoba (named for Simon Petlura, President of Ukraine in 1919, assassinated in Paris, at which time the Russian Commies invaded the country)
Size: grid road intersection; SW corner-store (with attached residence); NW corner-Church (and cemetary); NE corner-church hall; SE corner-empty.
