How long have they been there? I hardly notice them - very very nice placement of advertising!!!!!!!

They've been there for several weeks now… just kidding. I just added them this morning. I'm still experimenting but so far I like what's going on there. But I'm seeing a lot of repeatative ads so I think there's going to have to be some tweaking.

Do we need to click on ads every now and then for you to get paid?
Nope, don't do anything that you wouldn't do normally. If there's an add that interests you, click on it. Otherwise, ignore it.

On a related note, the following ad text just appeared for me as I was browsing the forums…
Is that new $50 Fake? [beware, clicking on it will follow the ad]
Thought that was interesting…

dr now ia ask this out of curiosity only and any money that comes to the site should be your for any purpose you desire as you said the first 6 plus years have been on your nickel (so to speak) less a few donations that were in my eyes minor tokens of our gratitude. you have no need to report to any of us on how the money is spent you keeping the site alive and well is all i ask. sorry my question … how are you paid for the ads by the number of hits they get or a flat rate for them being on the site?
Some of the ads pay-per-view and some of the ads are pay-per-click. I don't get to see which ads are which style, and personally I hope most are PPV because I would rather the money be made from "selling the space" so to speak instead of clicks. And I also don't want to promote people "clicking to make the site money" as that doesn't seem fair to the advertisers.
So, as I said before, during this trial period, ignore the ads if you want, read them if you like, and if you see something that purks your interest (such as that fake $50 link did for me) click it, in much the same way as you might go to a website after seeing an ad on TV. But don't click for no reason as that will: (a) inflate the income earned during the test; and (b) end up cheating the advertisers.

i was just curious if it was pay per view (selling space) that would seem the fair way for you the site provider.
Just wondering if you can set up the ads to either open a new window or tab when clicked on. Annoying when you go off to another site while still logged in here.
Ya, I was wondering that also. Unfortunately Google's code doesn't currently support this and modifying their code is against the program policy. I'm not sure if I can change the site setup to automatically open external links in a new window, but I'll look into it. In the meantime, if you are using Firefox (download Firefox 1.5 as it offers the best browser experience) you can simply middle mouse button click on a link to open in a new tab/window.

Safari here. And a control-click does the same thing on an old one button mouse. Just too lazy to do it manully I guess!
Safari??? What the heck are you doing using that old browser? :) One button mouse too??? Jeez. Next time I fly through Saskatoon, you're getting a new mouse.

Boy….are you easy to please!
With internet explorer that comes with windows products
all you do is right click on the link and there is an option to open in new window
option to open in new window
I prefer tabbed browsing. New windows tend to get messy or buried.
with windows you have a list of the programs running at the bottom of the screen. after x number windows of different programs with windows XP they are sorted together by program.
extra windows are always open when i am on the computer.. usually closed whenever they are no longer needed
I think you are trying to convince two guys (myself and Pooga) who have no interest in Windows. And even I'm going to have to side with Pooga and say that his Mac setup is superior to any Windows setup. Of course, his Mac doesn't touch my Linux setup but…
In any case, once you try tabs, you'll never go back to the clutter of multiple windows for multiple websites.

Actually Dr I like Linux, but I hardly play on my puter anymore I want easy. What is easier than the most widely used system in the world. Windows. Easy to find anything for it.
Initally I actually just gave some help to those who were reading the tread about how to open a webpage in a new window so they don't lose the current one.
