Hey DR,
What was the tally on the ad revenue for December? I'm very interested to see the results. If you don't wish to make it public please PM.
Hey DR,

The ad revenue for December was $64.29. The ads we started up on Dec 5th so that's an average of $2.38 per day. I plan on leaving the ads up for sure until I make $100 as Google only pays you once you hit that mark. After that, I will re-evaluate the use of the ads on the site.

dr. i would say in the way they are on the screen that they should stay as if that is an avarage monthly return you deserve the $700.00 + per year to help cover some of the costs to run the site.
I agree with BC :)
Not a problem here!
I agree dr….you should keep 'em
Kill the ads dr and start an online casino :)
I agree with jerbear :)
The ads are a bit scary. As one user noted, it makes us a 'for profit' site and might attract the negative notice of the Bank of Canada.
Would you make $700 in year from donations? Interesting question.
(Would you accept 'in kind' donations? Like if I sent you $100 worth of beer??? :-])
WELLL…if you wanna give it away……I'm here!
$100 worth of camofluage face paint?
Beer, yes . Cam paint, definitely not. If the army stuff didn't expire I'd have more lip balm, foot powder, sun screen, etc to survive a lifetime.
Ads, okay, how about a new plan? What if there are no ads for non-registered users? And ads on by default for registered users but you can turn them off if you want. Or perhaps you only see ads 50% of the time unless you send beer?
I dunno. I'm trying to find a happy median that won't make anyone mad and be a quitter.

Ads on/off by default by reg-users sounds good but really no preferance i can live with em or without them, do what you need to do dr.
It would still be a non profit site if any money made was only used to maintain and upgrade. if there happened to be extra (not much chance of that) then it could be donated. B of C sure would not complain "IF" any excess were donated to some charity.
With a more serious suggestion…
How about, if your CMT score is above 700 (or 800, or some other number to be determined) you have the option to have the ads turned off when you log in.
when i come onto the site i do not even notice the ads. they are not in colour they do not bounce across the screen or flash they just sit in the corner and wait to be clicked on. now if it is a case of scaring new members away then maybe not have the ads appear until a persons score hits say 400 by then the person will be close to hooked on the site and the ads will not mean didly to them. as far as for us die hard trackers who know how much work and effort you have put into this site … well if we cannot handle a few ads then maybe a donation of x value could buy a member key to shut the ads off. personally they do not bother me in the format they are in at all.
now pooga gifts in kind are usually issue for value of the item without taxes so with all the taxes removed from your product i would think 24 24's would be a fair price to buy you a no ad key for a year.
usually issue for value of the item without taxes
Except with alcohol or tobacco. See, the government can't stand to see all that revenue disappear, so any beer we give away for promotions, etc., is all tax paid.
I like the ads!!!!
It helps get rid of those who think life is a free ride.
As far as worrying about a little profit, I think that it would take many years for dr to recover what he has already put into this site.
I say leave it the way it is………Unless you want to put twice as many ads on the people who are blessed enough to be part of the TEAMS on this site! (Can you tell that I am a little bitter….HAHAHAHA)
Just my 2 cents….
Terry from Southey
WoW $64.29 per/m is crazy for those adds
by all means keep the cache coming.
but I believe that if it does not hit a hundred, he makes nothing.
The revenue he receives from the ads is so minimal, that if he took all that money, he would be able to buy a new low-end server about every three years with it. Hardly an incentive for him, but it does help defray what he puts into the site in time and true costs…server, access to the net, fees for the url, etc. I for one am not offended by them.
(PS. How about a case of bug-juice? LOL)
(PS. How about a case of bug-juice?)
I'll take that deal! I'm right out of the good bug juice.
A couple of cases of mine in exchange for a couple of bottlesof yours????
As pointed out $700 isn't much. Every 3 years for a server update. A little slow. Then there is the postal code database, Side note zip code if ever we plan on tracking our bills in the US.
For Ad Revenue there is alot of GOOD IDEAS. I like where the Newbies wouldn't have the ads pop up.
After a period of time. Maybe once they become Users the will come up, At that time you can be given an option of having them or not having them.
I will personally keep them. They are in a good place.
Third & last point I want to make. I would like to hope DR would consider making it easier to make donations to the site. An option of a maple leaf beside your name if you donate is a nice idea to have coupled with donations. Just to point out "Friend of CMT". At that the maple leaf should only last a period of time.. maybe 6 months for your last donation ( reguardless of amount ).
THAT FIGURES THE GOVERNMENT WOULD NOT WANT TO LOSE THEIR FAIR SHARE WOULD THEY.
