Bishop:1-888-513-8212 is the direct line to the Currency and Paper Money department.
I decided to write that number down and keep it on me at all times. JUST in case I have another run in with someone. So far it's only been a couple of tellers, but one never knows.
I was daydreaming a bit and stumbled onto this: Wouldn't it be nice if the Bank of Canada officially sanctioned this site? dr could send them the collected data, and they could check it out themselves. I am sure that the data on the movement of bills and their lifespan would be of interest to their staticticians and planners! Even an unofficial nod of acceptance would be a powerful tool. (Either that, or a small annual grant to dr for 'administrative' purposes! You never know with the feds. Research money is available for everything! Why not reseaching money???)
It's too bad that the 2000+ users on this site couldn't sign a petition and send it off to them!
I think this is 'performance art' - should be good for a $250,000.00 grant from the Canada Council. We'll convert it to fives, distribute it to all members to stamp and enter, then use it to upgrade the site- who loses?
I really like that last idea. We could have a beer drinking / stamping party 50,000 $5's is allot of stamping. We should see about getting an ink sponsorship as well.
Back to reality …………
I would be surprised if the B of C would give us the "official" nod because companies could start using it for advertising. Getting a bill that is stamped with "Spend me at Wal-Mart" or " This five worth $7 at Wal-Mart" would be going too far and the BofC would put a stop to it right away, and us as well. Thats my two cents.
I think that they might endorse the site because we(or DR) aren't making any money off of people visiting it while advertising for a business has the potential to make money.
Is that what the law says everyone?
My two cents— if this site were run by French-Canadians/Quebecois then the Bank of Canada would give us better support. You cannot deny the fact that its the French that gets the lion share. Think about it, they've been in power since 1963.
the French … they've been in power since 1963.
Except for the short terms of Joe Clark and Kim Campbell!
And you can't say that Lester was French (63-67)
But didn't Lester represent Westmount, in Montreal?
Anybody know for sure?
