New $5 bills more secure?

That article indicates the old notes will be pulled out of circulation within one year. That could be disasterous for trackers who have concentrated on getting their bills in $5 denominations. The old 10s were pulled extremely quickly, but they were very prone to forgery. I suspect $5 will be pulled more slowly, but the end is the same.

but we must remember that these bills seldom reach the bank as they are used as change and many big stores keep plenty on hand. tens, twenties, fifties and hundreds make up the large portion of deposits … i would think 20's 50's & 100's in most business deposits so what the bank does not see the bank cannot remove. i think it will take at least two years before they are changed out. i will have to start doing more 20's instead of fives for the next few months to help bridge the gap.

Another point to add in what BC had said is that we still have plenty of old $20 bills. They haven't been ordered taken out of circulation. The $5 bill I suspect is less inclined to be counterfitted than the the Old $20 bill would be. Maybe they will just the these $5 bill wear out then put in new bills as these wear out.

A lot of fives dont last a lot longer than a year anyway. Plus when they "pulled" the old tens, I was still getting a lot of them from the bank.

I still see a lot of old 10's in circulation as well, maybe 1:10. If they do pull the old fives, rather than see them die a natural death, it will kill our old long-lifers.

Pooga is just feeling a little ornery.

He hits the big 5-0 on Friday. Everyone come back in a few days and wish him a good one.
